There are so many factors that could swing your avg MPG over such a short window of analysis. Wind, how you drove, traffic, temp. Even just hitting the gas harder at one light would probably swing that average pretty strong if you are only using 8 driven miles to measure it.
I agree, too many factors. I dont have my Hybrid YET but even running the A/C on my EB can cause as much as 2 MPG. Head or tail winds? A/C or heat? State of charge on the hybrid battery? Braking for regen? Enjoy the Hybrid mileage, I would be happy with 40-50 MPG no matter what but I can appreciate your concern for the wide range of MPG that you are seeing.

The problem with driving is it is never exactly the same. That guy who drove slow in front of you today wasn't there yesterday. You caught a traffic light yesterday that was green today. There are too many variables on a short drive like that. Pump math tracked over the long term is the best way to judge MPG performance.

Your state of charge on HV battery going into this trip will also impact the MPG during the trip. The Maverick does not provide any SOC indication, so you really don't have much else to go on. Shuttering..I can only guess that that can't be good either. Anyone else have a clue about how the shuttering could impact MPG?
This was going to be my suggestion. Other than operating temp/ambient temp, the biggest factor--and likely culprit in such a variance--in MPG for shorter trips is going to be the state of charge for the HV battery.

It was 48 degrees on the 52mpg drive and 54 degrees on the 43mpg drive, same day. I have noticed around 38mpg when the temperature was around 0-10 degrees a couple weeks ago, but that is to be expected.
Many variables. Perhaps dew point was such that the defrost was turned on. Could be that HVB SOC was such that the ice came on extra. On such a short trip hard to say. Possibly was not in your normal drive mode. Maybe you did not Regen the normal amount and more Hydraulic was used. Reset trip 1 or trip 2 at times of fill up and go with that mpg although it can vary due to variations. With 400+ mile on a trip meter I can see 0.3 mpg difference in a couple miles.

I don't know if the hybrid does the same thing, but my EB usually indicates better fuel economy on the first trip after a fill-up. The MPG number given by the truck usually drops noticeably on subsequent trips. I don't know why this is, but it's a pattern I've noted numerous times over the past year.

I will read shuttering as shuddering an would think that there is some misapplied torque which could cause damper to slip or maybe something is causing the electric drive motor to be turning rapidly on and off and or maybe something is causing the Regen braking to oscillate. Could be an issue with the three phase current not being properly applied to the drive motor. Who knows?

With nothing changed between drives other than a slight temperature change I noticed a 10MPG drop in performance today.

When you park, you can park with a HV battery as high as 70% charged, or as low as 30% charged. You don't know what it is unless you have an aftermarket OBDII reader.

The battery is always somewhere in the middle but if the engine was running at the moment (or just before) you turned the truck off, the battery will be on the higher side. If you did a lot of EV driving just before shutting down, you will park with a battery charge on the lower side.

That range of charge can be good for 2 EV miles. That's 25% of your 8 mile trip. And the variance in MPG was less than 25%. So nothing appears to be wrong with your trip or truck.

Park with a highly charged battery and your very next trip will have higher MPG. Park with a low charge in the battery, and your very next trip will have lower MPG. Averages out in the end, but not on short trips.

This is the best answer I have received yet. Although you would think if that was the case the electric miles would reflect that. I know these are short trips. Just the first time I noticed such a decrease in mpg from my average. (Other than when it is extremely cold, which it wasn’t). Still a great truck and I usually get great mileage overall. Not as good as some on the forum but so many factors it’s hard to know exactly why.

Yeah. This truck is weird. It hasn’t done it again yet. Not as noticeable anyway. I do occasionally get the abs hard braking at low speeds. I had the clicking noises when it is parked and I am near the truck. So many little weird things with the hybrids.

Hybrid XLT lux when parked and in ready status with radio and ac off you can hear a "pump?" Come on for 2-5 seconds do one or several times usually just before ice starts. Must be checking battery temp to see if or at what amperage battery is to be charged? Dunno for sure.

Or pumping up the hydraulic brake pressure.

Well, if your measurements were accurate then your ride wasn't identical. Gas quality, battery charge, engine issue, environmental difference for starters. Have to see how it goes long term.
