Putting only 10 gallons into a Maverick is silly in my opinion. I have to drive 500 miles per week so why would I only add 10 gallons each time?

My Hybrid routinely gets between 700 and 900 miles to the tank.

In states with "vapor recovery nozzles" premature stops are frequent.

In Illinois it seemed that a lot of stations had poorly maintained pumps - at one station near my old house there my Grand Caravan would sometimes click off with 1/8 tank still to go. In WA it seems they may be more stringent about pump maintenance or maybe its the milder winters, IDK, but didn't happen here with the GC (and now I have the Mav in any case).

I've been doing the fill-to-click-off then wait for 30 seconds and squeeze until I get another click but no further after that.

When you fill your tank and it clicks off don’t keep trying to put more in. That extra half gallon can saturate your EVAP canister and or clog your purge valve as you now know.

Exactly. My neb always had problem with his SUV. Learned he clicks fuel nozzle till gas reached top of his tank nozzle . Told him not to do that, and why. And how to properly fill the tank. Since he adjusted, no more CEL.

That valve replaced is 62 bucks. $800 for that and a fuel additive poured into your tank. Wow they GOT you. Its NOT hard to change. Granted they had to figure out what was wrong. BUT $800. Yikes.

When you're putting that last 2-3 gallons I'm, you are filling the neck tube and not the tank. The neck tube is inserted into a rubber grommet in the tank, and it's going to degrade and leak at some point. Is it leaking yet?

There ain't no 2-3 gal in the neck tube!

You've seen pictures of that of tank and tube, right?

Since it enters at bottomish area of tank, it's even less than the whole tube.
Which means the tube/tank seal is mainly under fuel level and pressure on hybrid.

Here is the funny part. Last time I was there was pre-2020. Gas in NJ was cheaper than Maryland, Delaware, PA, and NY at the time I traveled through all of them. And the Shell station I filled at the attendant washed my windshield and rear window ! The thing I noticed was many drivers told the attendant to fill it while they went in the convenience store and spent more money. Through put is quicker with a person filling the tank for you while you buy higher margin items.

Cheaper than NY and PA in Oct 2024 also - by 20-30 cents!

I was able to make it thru PA to & from without stopping for fuel in the state, and NY made a visit to NJ during the 5 days and skipped it too!

Shaking & burping your truck - sloshing liquid gas into the EVAP system - now that IS silly

The EVAP system stays most robust if you never let your tank get below 1/4 tank (cooling) or above 3/4 tank (sloshing).

Former NJ resident, first job was pumping gas. The gas station owners would love to get rid of the pump jockeys, believe me.

Really curious……….
What is your cold tire pressure?
Ive always been pretty happy getting 50+/- MPG’s. Tires at low/mid 40s psi.
And everyone can get a wild reading once in a while. (As I’ve said in the past, going 2for4 on opening day does not make one a .500 hitter). But 60+ for a whole tank is truly commendable!

I run 43PSI font and 32 rear on continental pro contact OEM. Most of my driving is up and down the mill creek with ups and downs that allow 1/3 engine on 2/3 electric only. I time lights and use 100% regen braking. When starting up I run the engine at the 38% rpm/throttle position, reach speed, and let off the throttle and coast to next slight up hill. I am in competition against my friend's hybrid Camry. When I go east to west We take the chevy Cruze because of the big hills would crush my MPGs on the maverick. I guess it could be said that I cheat. 13.2 gallons of gas, 3 pump clicks getting a real 57.8 MPGs

10/16.5 is ~60%.

Not filling more than 60% is weird.

Well my first job at 10 was cleaning the restrooms at my brother's gas station. A real gas station not a convenience store. $3/week for cleaning 6 days a week. At 11 I was bumped up to pump jockey on Saturdays for $1/day! I think he may have violated child labor laws . Eventually I got the job of patching bike tubes and washing cars. I wouldn't have traded those days for anything. My brother was 13 years older than me and died at 45. I didn't have enough time with him.
