In Eco mode, acceleration is seriously neutered.

That says it best !
Every time I take my Wife’s Honda out, the first thing I do is shut down Eco, put in Sport, and use paddle shifters! Next time she gets pissed cause it’s off Eco mode. 🙄 I tell her I filled up with higher octane fuel, which I do, so there!

24MY Maverick XL Hybrid here. First thing I always do is click that dumb button 4-5 times to move to 'ECO' mode. More than anything quantitative, I much prefer how it drives in 'ECO' mode. If you drive conservatively and strategically coast to a stop light/sign you will nearly coast to a stop.

Driving behavior is still king when trying to maximize your fuel efficiency numbers. The only thing that I might eek out of it is marginally less wear on brake pads and fractions of a percent in MPG due to the increased deceleration and battery re-gen when in 'ECO' mode.

on the 25MY Ford made ECO a simple double-click on the left mode select button, and its a double click on the right mode select button to get it back to normal. i like the system.

in City i use Normal with the L button, but on HWY i use ECO with no L button. Sometimes on the freeway it wont go into electric and i want to manually regen the battery, so I make sure theres no one behind me and click the L button.

I'm not trying to maximize fuel efficiency - no matter what I do it gets exceptional gas mileage in Normal, even if I drive like I stole it! Some here talk about needing to get the highest mpg they possibly can "just because it's a hybrid".

What!? Guess I don't find it an interesting challenge to eek out every 1/2 mpg. To me it's transportation, a useful tool, but to each their own.

I use ECO all the time unless I'm doing spirited driving or towing. I use the L mode when I am in stop and go traffic or when I want maximum regenerative braking/engine braking. My MPG mostly depends on my acceleration rate and average speed. With about 800 lbs on board and inefficient, oversized tires cruising at around 80 MPH on the parkway I'll see 33mpg. If I go to the same destination but allow an extra 20 minutes to take the old country two lane at 55mph, I'll see 39+mpg. I have not calibrated my truck to the larger 255/50R20 tires and this gives inaccurate readings.

Just for grins, I will try to run ECO full-time between fuelings, just to see if there is a real difference over all my driving conditions. IF, of course, I can remember to set ECO every time I boot up.
When I did that I just pressed the throttle deeper to get my expected performance.
In that I negated any fuel savings.

I found that driving my Ecoboost in my Appalachian mountains was best both economically and smoothly using a bit more throttle in normal mode as opposed to using a lot more throttle in eco.

Bet that made no sense.

I know you are talking about hybrid here, and I have EcoBoost. For me it seems that the driving modes are more like "cruise control attitude adjusters". Sure, they adjust the throttle mapping but full throttle is still full throttle and if you do not feel you are accelerating too much or not enough, you will just press the pedal less or more, no matter what the throttle mapping is. What you normally cannot control is how hard the cruise control accelerates when you hit resume or after that car finishes the turn in front of you. You can adjust that acceleration rate with the different driving modes :)

You are exactly right.
The idea is more like a game to play with my truck than a quest for serious data. It would take several comparison fill-ups (and a good bit of attentive diligence) to be able to determine what difference there might be.

Yes, as one who likes to get up to speed fairly quickly, then take it easy, I find having to stomp on the throttle for 'normal' acceleration in Eco mode more of a 'crippling gimmick' than anything else. Sure you can get used to it but it's just in the way for my use. I know there are other subtleties in regen for hybrids, etc but that's my take on it.

Guess I'd have to say Sport mode is a similar gimmick in moving the throttle response so very little pedal does a lot, with hybrids running both ICE and electric motor all the time.

Staying in Normal I don't have to adjust or even think about what the truck will do for any given pedal input, but I understand others have different priorities and some just like to fiddle with things. ;-)

I noticed better MPG‘s cruising around town in the L mode. I only do it cruising around town not on the highway.

Driving in L mode, is this good or bad for my truck?
Could be; it may heat cycle the HVB more frequently depending on your driving conditions shortening it's expected life an undetermined amount, it may put heavier use on your CV axles from all that added braking thru the transmission, you are more likely to immediately notice being rear ended as "L" does not activate the brake lights. Do not know if this last part is true for the '25s or if the '25s AWD rear end is affected.

25 lariat awd hybrid, what is the real difference, driving in both seems the same to me?
Eco is:
- more aggressive braking
- less responsive gas pedal
- less responsive cruise control

On the highway - you just come to almost a stop by using the L button for max regen rate?

I'm betting many times it's not going into EV on the highway because max speed is about 62 for it anyway, unless coasting tad faster - not because there's not enough HVB charge to do it.

Don't tell me you attempt to get back up to speed just in EV mode, on the highway?

you know how you are driving in EV mode and the box around your activity gets smaller and smaller. thats your HV battery being used. when it gets too small it will not go back to EV mode...it goes from Hybrid to Charging and the engine stays on.

. Clicking the L button will max out the recharge fast and slow you down without brake lights.. it also seems to reset the 2 outer lines of the box and i can use EV mode like normal again. i never really "coast", i am always fiddling with the gas/go pedal to max out the lines to the edge of the box without turning the engine on. i can work it in EVin the high 60s.

no never ever attempt to get back up to speed in EV mode only, that would take way too much time.

Normal is more responsive and playful, it will accelerate and rev up faster when you depress the pedal. Eco reduces the response of your input on the pedal and shifts differently, keeping you in lower RPMs and reducing your acceleration.
I use Eco alot although recently noticed that normal is alot more fun.
