Awesome. Super helpful answer!

Eco mode dials back throttle response, shifts earlier, and even tones down the A/C to squeeze a little more efficiency out of the truck (on the hybrid it’ll lean on the electric motor more, too). It works best around town or cruising easy, but the MPG gain isn’t huge unless you’re already driving smooth. Normal mode feels way better when you need power—merging, towing, hills, etc. If you notice the A/C not blasting as hard in Eco, that’s by design to help save fuel.

PS. There's actually not a huge amount of savings in ECO mode. Most just leave it in Normal and enjoy.
Don’t say “Most just leave it in Normal and enjoy”. The first thing I do when I get in my 2025 Lariat Hybri, is put on ECO mode and add “Trip 1” which I reset every time I fill up the tank.

LOL. I said "most", not "all".

You seem to be a bit uptight. Everything ok?

Hybrid - it changes the Go pedal response and coasting regen, and level the brake regen engages.

Those modes are almost all about helping you change something while driving.
Or helps with your traffic or terrain driving scenarios.

Econ more coasting regen then Normal.
Econ more brake pedal regen then Normal with pedal at same height, more range.
Econ less Go pedal response then Normal at same height, more range.

Have a problem punching out of EV mode and kicking the ICE on - perhaps Econ will help.
Have a problem punching the brakes too hard and into physical instead of more regen - perhaps Econ will help.
Meant to include for the hybrids extra info for new drivers.

If you could keep from punching into ICE usage accidentally when not desired/needed, or keep from going into brake dust on slowdowns/stopping - there would be no difference in MPG.

How CC works is changed somewhat, but may not be noticed often depending on terrain & traffic.

Perhaps Eco would regulate the AC a tad more as the manual says - but part of that is obviously for EB immediately effecting the ICE, not a thing for hybrid.

So to the thought that the different modes allow more total regen and fill the battery better - no. The rate changes, the total amount will be the same.
Whatever is done automatically can be done with the brake pedal pressure. Different modes just effect how fine a line you have beyond auto-regen into brake dust.
Coasting to maintain speed with heavier regen just means toeing the line with Go pedal. Which frankly does have a long range of movement than the brake pedal, so may be easier.
Very personal thing.
But usually what's found for best MPG - is coasting, not regen. Whatever allows more coasting or cruising in low power EV only is best MPG.
That's usually better than trying for max regen as focus.
And even that's better than focusing on keeping in EV mode on accelerations from stops or up hills - your own slow no traffic residential streets, sure. In traffic - no. You'll be sucking up the HVB for barely any miles, then find there is nothing left for low power chunks of driving when it could be used.

ECO

Ford Maverick Eco vs norm mode {filename}
This mode decreases accelerator pedal responsiveness to soften driver inputs and encourage efficient driving. Depending on your vehicle’s options, adaptive cruise control is slower to return to the set speed and auto start-stop engages more often. The system decreases air conditioning output to conserve energy when set to auto mode. Use this mode for fuel efficient driving which allows for an extended vehicle range.

On my Ecoboost
Eco makes it run like it needs a tune up.
Worthless feature IMO
Ran my 22 EB in Eco all the time. Got 30.6 mph gal for over 32k mile. Guess it needed a tune up.....................:wink:😁

I’m fine. When you say “most” the knuckleheads on this site say “most people do it so maybe I should”. Just don’t over generalize when you don’t really know.

25 lariat awd hybrid, what is the real difference, driving in both seems the same to me?
There's a big difference between Eco and Normal in my XLT hybrid. Normal feels pretty 'normal' compared to other vehicles I've driven. In Eco mode, acceleration is seriously neutered while coasting is lost to regeneration. These are both points of serious frustration to me so I don't use Eco at all, not in my Maverick and not in my Corolla Cross hybrid. If we were to get a decent snow or ice storm here in SC this winter I would use Slippery, otherwise mine stays in Normal.

Got a solid 31 mpg in mine on the flat lands once. But I got this problem with my right foot.
It feels so heavy. :’P

Yeah I get the exact same mileage in normal or eco mode. Only difference I feel is in normal mode I have this wonderful small block V-8 under my Maverick hood.

In Eco I’ve got this wimpy non Turbo 4 Banger.
Like my old 22R Taco motor.

Sport mode can be fun but I don’t drive that hard. Don’t need to keep my motor up that high on the tach.
My Turbo starts pulling right at 1900 Rpm.
It’s all I need to spool up my way.

Just for grins, I will try to run ECO full-time between fuelings, just to see if there is a real difference over all my driving conditions. IF, of course, I can remember to set ECO every time I boot up.

I noticed better MPG‘s cruising around town in the L mode. I only do it cruising around town not on the highway.

Driving in L mode, is this good or bad for my truck?

Speaking of L, I was just coasting down a long hill and thinking of this thread, switched to ECO. I didn't notice a difference, so I pushed L--immediately a loud buzzing, like the engine started racing. I promptly switched L off, but the noise persisted for several seconds.

Look at your power meter. You'll notice more a regenerative amount when you let off the throttle and increased deceleration= more charging of the battery.
