I haven't seen any posts mentioning this yet, so I just wanted to share my experiences relating to eco mode and mpg's so far. I received my Hybrid about a month ago, and got in the habit of immediately switching to ECO mode at the start of every trip in order to get the best MPG's possible. After a month of driving like this, I decided to try leaving it in normal mode and see what sort of difference I got in mpg's.

To my surprise, I saw a pretty miniscule difference in mpg's, but found the truck to be much more responsive and enjoyable to drive while in normal mode. I do about 80% city driving, and am averaging around 45 mpg in normal mode, which isn't far off from what I was getting in eco mode.

To me, the penalty of the sluggish response while in ECO mode wasn't worth the negligible difference it made in mpg's, and I MUCH prefer the power response while in normal mode. Not to mention the annoyance of having to manually put it in eco mode at the start of every trip.

To anyone else who shares this annoyance, try leaving it in normal mode! You might be surprised like I was to see it didn't make much of a difference. As always though, YMMV.

I only shift into ECO mode once I get on the freeway into cruising speed.

Gotta try SPORT mode too.

I kept the accelerator pressure the same when I went from Normal to Sport. It went into another "gear" and powered UP quickly (still same gas pedal pressure, I did not left off or push down).

This is pretty true with the EcoBoost too. In most of my driving, ECO mode will improve my MPG's about 1 mile per gallon. If I have a lot of city driving, it doesn't make really any difference. Not worth the performance drop.

But Sport mode does negatively affect my MPG's much more noticeably.

Certainly for you Hybrid owners, the law of diminishing returns applies here. These modes are really just changing how the engine reacts to your input - if you can control your accelerations reasonably you won't see much of a change.

The first vehicle I owned that had an eco-mode was a nissan rogue. That CVT engine was already an unresponsive dog - putting it into eco-mode made it downright dangerous to drive (we just spent a week in California and ended up with...a rogue. UGH. A reminder of what a terrible engine that was!).

Just chiming in to say keep it in normal, enjoy an occasional fast start and take it easy the rest of the time and you'll see just as good results without any of the negatives!

My experience with the way Eco mode works is based off the Fusion Hybrid I drive. It seems the eco mode allows for more regenerative breaking over the normal mode, but you are right the MPG's isn't affected as much. You however can feel the difference in the sluggish starts, but also dont get the engine breaking when you decelerate as much without eco mode.

Yeah, Sport Mode with the EB and 4K rear end/92 octane, and it almost is too powerful for the vehicle to handle.

Turns into beast mode, even when shifting while driving. Literally kicks-in.

I was just starting a similar experiment, and was suspecting the same thing. I don't think it is worth it to put the Mav in eco mode

I've found eco mode to be decent bump in MPGs when city driving. That combined with the coach screen have helped me not be in such a rush and I can often see 50-60 mpgs when just going a few miles.
As far as highway driving goes though, I've come to realize eco mode needs to be turned off.

I have found ECO mode to increase regenerative braking. The regenerative braking will decrease the inertia roll while in NORMAL MODE the coast distance increases by 75% or more. I use ECO for most of my braking until I am under 30 mph. I am sure those behind me are swearing about my driving..

As for mpg, the Temperature in Michigan has the greatest affect... But with temps above 40, speed under 55 and ECO mode the truck will get 47mpg. Now city driving once the engine is to temp the truck will exceed 50mpg.. My highway mpg in the winter was closer to 33mpg but over 36 when warmer. I am not a rabbit starter and do most of my driving mix....

I have had my hybrid Maverick about a couple of weeks now and I like to bike. When taking my bike to the trail head I have noticed consistantely better mpg in the Normal vs Eco mode. Driving the same road there and back I got better mileage in Normal than Eco. This morning I got up to 57 mpg in Normal. When I returned in Eco it was 50 mpg. Haven't done much highway driving yet, but I am think Eco mode may be better when that happens. Regardless I am really pleased with the milage. This truck is making our 2017 Ford Fusion hybrid look like a gas suzzler.

The brake feel is way better in eco mode for me. But it's annoying how much tip-in you need for the gas.
