My theory:

They're marketing to youngsters because that's where they can make some traction.

No need to market to older or retired folks, they'll figure it out.

However, if you do the opposite and market to older people, I think there'd be no winning the younger crowd.

That said, they've got a winner. I love mine. It's very practical for me, my family, and my job.

Another old guy here...hitting 58 in a couple of weeks. I don't' need or want a "real truck" -- I want something better. It's why I bought a Ridgeline in 2006 and my Maverick is in production now.

Old fart at 72 here. Eco, FWD XL 360 Moon. Traded a 2020 Ranger and never looked back. This truck feels quicker than my 2016 Mustang Eco.

Most of the Maverick owners (which are few and far between in my town) are middle-senior age men. As a result, I feel like a spoiled little s*** because I'm 24 and drive a fully-loaded Lariat while everyone else is driving base XL's or XLT's. The reason for it is they're the types who want to keep things simple with less technology in their vehicles in order to keep their price down. I respect that but for me, I've always had to compromise with features and colors on other vehicles in the past. The Maverick was an opportunity to get exactly what I wanted at an affordable price. Since I'm young, I favor having more technology and luxury features. Not because I'm a distracted and s*** driver trying to rely on them but because I accept and utilize the new technological advances in modern vehicle engineering. I know it's more stuff to break in the long-run but that's what a warranty is for.
I'm sure this post was well intentioned as it is such a kindly put condescension effort that includes old people in one general low tech category. People are individuals and each have their own subjective tastes. I enjoy technology, and have designed many electrical power and control systems for all kinds of facilities. I have been a computer user and application developer since 1978. Yes I'm retired, 75 years old, yet I love technology of all kinds, however, I don't want to buy technology for technologies sake which would be case for me if I had purchased a Lariat w/Lux package. I purchased an XL and plan on upgrading to an OEM cruise activating it with ForScan which is not a low tech effort. And, my purchase of an XL had nothing to do with price, but a choice based on interior color choice.

I know you mean well and did not intend to offend anyone, but unfortunately, your hypothesis is somewhat flawed. I know old folks that patented some of the first silicon chips and cpu's, worked electronics design on the X-15 and SR-71, worked on US Military ICBM technology, and others who designed some of the first electronic calculators, which all of these may be old technology, albeit, none of which is low tech. But, as you say "they're the types who want to keep things simple." Where would our society be today without the technology you love today, without these ol' folks that blazed new trails, keeping things simple?

I don't get it. Are they marketing the Mav at all, to anyone? I haven't seen one single ad anywhere. And I don't see anything remotely hipster about the Maverick. It is pretty outdoor-lifestyle friendly but I guess if hikers are hipsters, everyone is a hipster.

I figure they want to sell vehicles plain and simple. And everybody knows young people can't afford new cars and that overall they own cars in lower numbers than in the past.

tfarny, the same question was asked back in the early days of the Ridgeline. Those of us who had one noticed that there were no ads for the thing even though we thought it was a great truck. The general explanation was that the Ridgeline was essentially a "filler" on the production line along with the Ody and the Pilot and Honda didn't really have production capacity to significantly increase Ridgeline production.

Probably the same is true for the Mav now...Ford has enough production capacity issues at present and doesn't need to generate a lot more orders that wont' be made until probably early '24 at best.

Just my 2 cents.

Just started getting the AARP...so yep...hoping to love this versatile machine!
I’m 66 and went with AMAC over AARP. The Maverick is for my wife, if we ever get it. Have already sold her Edge, so we are down to just my F150. :(

I'm a millennial... But I identify as a boomer.

If anyone needs me, I'll be driving my Maverick back and forth to work every day while providing for my wife and child and generally living out the American dream.
I’m impressed. You don’t see a lot of millennials outside their parents basement. ;)

53 here. Cant wait for my silver XLT AWD to get built. I plan on dropping it 2" . Already got a bed cover and some 18x8s to go on it. Got a bunch of goodies waiting in a box to go on it. Wife says I'm like a little kid in that regard but finds it cute that I'm excited about this truck.

I been a car guy all my life. Always had something cool in my garage. I have had various Dodge Chargers, dodge darts, plymouth barracudas the last 37 years. I have a 2"-4" dropped 94 Silverado 350 5 speed I bought new snd have owned 28 years, and a 2007 mustang GT 4.6L 5 speed I also bought new.

Its all down hill after 40 lol. Dont make me laugh. I run 2 miles every morning at 4:30AM. I eat real healthy, and drink nothing but water and green tea. I am in the middle of my latest restoration 1969 Barracuda 340-S. Slowed up a little as I had a hernia fixed about 3 weeks ago, but as soon as I can, I will be back to 2 miles every morning. I dont drink, I dont smoke. My pops lived till he was 84, and was a smoker with not as healthy of a lifestyle. Lord willing I'm sure I will eclipse that.

Your only as young as you feel, along with how well you take care of yourself. I also have AMAC. No AARP for me.

Last time I checked, I didn't see a bunch of man bun hipsters running car dealerships and adding on 'market adjustments' there Grandpa.
The Gen Z young whippersnappers who work for me tell me man buns are so passe now. But that's not the word they used. I forgot it because I have old man brain.

I might have missed it in the thread, but don’t believe I’ve seen a mention of Gen X.
That's okay, we're used to being ignored while we quietly work away and get things done. It's kind of what we did growing up.

I'm 60 and love the attention I get with this truck. Add my doodle in the back seat and its definitely a "chick magnet." Just don't tell my wife that...
Your wife won't care because she knows that at your age, the young cuties who love your truck and your dog think you're a harmless old man. We just can't win, man. 🤷‍♂️

Wow, that brings back memories of my old Elements, had a 2003 and a 2008. Underpowered and crappy MPG but I loved the utilitarian aspect of it.

What's funny is that I am a millenial, haven't lived with my parents since I was 16, but my in-laws have lived with us off-and-on over the last 6yrs, and their "retirement plan" is to move permanently into our basement. Not to be outdone, there's a significant chance we will also have to assist with the living situation of my own parents soon.

We aren't all freeloading losers.
