I have no problem with the rotary shifter. I have been licensed for over 53 years and during that time regularly driven over 21 different vehicles prior to the receipt of my Maverick. Most of these (12) have been standard transmission vehicles to include two "3 on the tree" with the rest being either 4 or 5 speed on the floor. I still regularly drive three of those. Of the automatics, five of the nine were column mounted. Our Prius (s) have had that Toyota E-cvt set up on the dash and I've been used to it for over ten years. One of the vehicles (a '49 Jeepster of my father's) had a floor mounted starter button, the Toyotas a dash mounted button. These various set ups have really made me such that nothing in the basic operation of the Maverick has required any real adjustment on my part; it's just different from what I've had. All the tech (safety systems and connectivity) is what has a big learning curve for me.

it took me a grand total of two days to get used to it - by day 3 I only occasionally thought about it, by day 5 until 2 years later I never think about it, I just turn the little wheel and off I go.

I LOVE the Rotary Shift Knob. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Some people just like to complain.

If it's a sticking point to you, choose antoher vehicle.

It's coming to more and more vehicles, and once were all Battery Electric Vehicles, this type of Drive mode selector will be either the standard or very commonplace.

Humans are capable of learning, and capable of change. Try it sometime!

After a little time to get used to it, I don't mind that it's a rotary shifter. What I don't like is how small it is and how easy it turns. A bigger dial with more resistance and more definitive "clicks" into each gear would be a big improvement, especially for using it without looking at it.

It was one of the things I was initially concerned about, but have not had a single issue with it. I have inadvertently poured a cup of coffee (or two) over it and the parking brake lever and no issues there either. Another poster indicated the shifter itself was sealed. I still would try to avoid liquid spills, but after using the truck for a year or so no issues.

I don’t like the rotary shifter because I always have to look for reverse.

My bigger complaint is the electronic parking brake. I would feel much more comfortable with a manual brake that allowed me to actually use it in an emergency. I’ve not wanted to be a drifter, but there have been many times when I wished I had a pull handle to stop any vehicle when necessary.

Mostly, it's just different. It probably could be better designed, but it's OK.

Sometimes, if I'm not paying attention, I put my wife's RAV4 in Low Range rather than Drive, so that system isn't perfect either. My Mav has extra space for an additional cup holder, and that's pretty cool.

Dude, Don't follow so close and push harder with your foot! The parking brake isn't supposed to be an emergency / auxiliary brake while you're in motion.

Honestly, I have NEEDED an “emergency brake” in the past. I am not an aggressive driver, but an electronic parking brake would not have kept me from issues when I needed it. It is ONLY A PARKING BRAKE. I miss having the security of an “emergency” brake.

I got stuck in the snow and it took a little practice to get it to rock out. Also took it out of traction control and used trailer mode to get it to rock. then I drove back in to do it again for practice.

At 17 months and 7500 miles, I still not a fan of the rotary shifter and just recently, the electric parking break. I spilled some coffee backing out of the driveway .and went to clean it up with a rag and tapped the parking break. Luckily, it didn't go into full park, just enough to quickly lock up and release. Scared the crapped out of me.
Maybe I just too old to adapt to the shift nob or still haven't driven it enough. I tend to twist it the wrong way when parallel parking/U-turns.
Oh, forgot the big bitch point...The car always rests to normal driving mode and the auto shut-off at stop lights. I still forget to change it to economy when I get in and turn off the "auto off". grrrrrrr....!
Still haven't done the 2(?) recalls for towing harness and turn signal light not telling me the bulb is out.
Also, the front bed lip is some soft aluminum(F), dents too easily. Going to put in a protective cap once I finally get the bed line sprayed. I should have done it as soon as I bought it...prices have gone up $200 :~(
