Does anyone know the expected life for screens in vehicles?

They love scaring people to buy extended warranties. The 2022-2024 screens are $85-200 on eBay.

Try eBay or a Google search.
The thing about buying a used screen NOW. Is that unless you have a way to fully check it out.
You don't know if it's any good, specially 5-7 years down the road you may need it.

He can swap it out now and inventory the one he takes out!

Based on the number of totaled Mavericks we see here on MTC every month, I'm guessing we'll never have a hard time finding cheap used parts. As we soon approach a million Mavericks on the road, the reclaimed parts will flow.

They'll get one from china
Thing is Ron, that's where product manufacturers are. OR Mexico
Ford will install a new screen that originated in China/Mexico.
Ford won't install a used screen from eBay or a junkyard.
I feel that most vehicle owners including Maverick owners cannot repair or replace the electronics in their vehicles. They are forced to go to either a dealership or find a independent shop that works on electronics.
At 70 I still do my own oil changes.
Because I'm still able and have the tools needed.
I don't assume everybody does.
Some people will call an electrician to change a light switch or a plumber to clear a P-trap. 🤷‍♂️

Reminds me... When I was hired as plumbers helper at 16 (had to have DL and I even had a commercial DL) the first thing I was told "This is your minimum starter tool box and $4/week will be deducted from pay until it's paid for. If you want to add to it we will put that on the pay plan. The next thing I was told = "S!*t runs downhill, you are good to go". We furnish the shovels.

These are not the things that fail and make the car undriveable like ABS units or computers that eventually become unobtainable. Things like that are why you can buy an old V-12 supercar for 8 grand, it will become essnetially undriveable the next major thing that fails. Screens will be in junkyards for a long time. Recognize that new cars will not last like cars from the 60s.

How long did those engines last w/o a rebuild? Transmissions? How often were tune-ups needed? That's when 3k mile oil changes were truly warranted, also. All the while burning more gas and spewing out more emissions. (and being much safer - hah)

Modern vehicles are pretty darn reliable for all of the upgrades and tech that are built into them. If you spend them same amount of time and money to maintain them as a 60s vehicle, I'd say that they will easily last as many years and/or miles.

I had an original Ford Escape Hybrid.
One of the first 10,000 made.
Before most people knew what a "hybrid" car was.

Anyhow... it had a tiny infotainment screen that did only radio; navigation, and hybrid / fuel economy stuff.

Was truly a "display". It didn't control anything other than changing radio stations IIRC. You could live / drive without it.

It started acting up about year 10.
By year 12 it wasn't working.
That was about 200,000 miles into ownership
It was not a touch screen. Just a display. And I never fixed it.

Just a data point.

FYI I own a 30 year old Volvo that had a max of about 100,000 produced/shipped to the US. I can buy almost anything for it on eBay if needed. I personally wouldn't buy a Maverick screen as I'm guessing in just a few years there will be an easy DIY swap for a higher quality screen for our 22-24's...they made 300,000 of them in just three years.

I would be more worried about Apple and / or Google making a major change to Carplay or Android auto that will make all hardware older than xxxx obsolete, which will render hundreds of millions of infotainment systems obsolete.

In my previous vehicle I had a simple Pioneer double DIN receiver that did both, but it also had a native Spotify app that worked over bluetooth only that worked great when I didn't want to connect Android Auto, until Spotify randomly decided they didn't want to support it anymore.
