We recently had a bad storm and a small branch fell on the hood and made a small dent. It's hardly noticeable unless your looking for it, but in the sun it would be the equivalent if a marble made the impact crater.

I was thinking about getting one of the hot glue gun style dent pullers, but wondering if aluminum is too soft and would actually create a convex bump in it's place? Anybody have experience with these types of small dents on ford aluminum? It's trivial enough I woudn't want to think about going to insurance or having the dealers guy pull it for $50-$100 when I would think I can just take care of it myself.

Get the ding king. Start off with just a little glue so you don’t over pull. I’ve done many dents with good results.

I have a cheap Amazon hot glue dent puller and think it would be fine on the hood. You could always add some extra padding under the main puller tool if you are concerned. While I have pulled dings out of steel, I have not tried it on aluminum yet. I would think aluminum would be easier to work with.

If you have direct access to the underside of the dent you may be better served working it out slowly from the bottom.. good luck....

Aluminium is tricky. Personally, I would take it to or have a mobile dent specialist do it. Remind them it is AL and send a pic to get a quote. If there is a hood brace on the underside they will drill a hole and plug it. Good luck.

Take my advise. Use a professional. I am a dent guy. Glue pulling doesn't work well on aluminum. And though it looks easy enough. As you will find out it isn't. And after you mess it up we can't fix it properly. $50-$100 is a good price. Out here in CA. I charge $150-$175 for that size dent.

Although I have had good success taking out small door dings in steel myself, I would probably pay to have it done in this case. Years ago a jr. shop kid put a bunch of dents in my brand new SUV hood trying to dislodge the wiper arm to properly align it (the dingbat did not know there was a tool for that). After trying to find a new hood the same colour they paid a dent guy to come to the dealer and work all of the dents out. He did a fantastic job!

I totally agree. Pay the $50-$150 for a dent removal specialist. Been using guys like you for all my door dings and shopping cart slams for the last 20 years. What is really cool is if ANY painting needs to be done, you guys do it and you can't tell it's been done!

Let's see a pic of the dent. The Maverick hood isn't nearly flat, so if the dent is on or near any of the ridges it may not be repairable at all, and even if it is you want a pro to do it.

Ford dealership tech dented my hood a year ago leaning on it to look at a chip in the windshield. They tried PDR, it failed, they had to replace the whole hood.

Totally would get a dent removal specialist for this. You will be glad you did.

Don't mess with it, there are so many companies, pointless dent removal, dent devil, etc if you stretch aluminum it won't go back, you can't shrink it like metal...pay the pro could be 50/100/ 150/. Bucks ....get est.

And, back it up with a piece of smooth wood while you gently tap it.
