I know recalls themselves are free obviously, but I'd imagine if you want the convenience of a tech coming out to your home, or workplace to do things like software recalls, I'd imagine you'd have to pay for that. Is that correct?
It's free, if your dealer offers the service and if you're within a certain distance from them.
The closest dealers to my house do recalls with mobile service, but they don't travel to my address. Too far away.

Aside from recalls being free to the customer, mobile techs are cheaper than in house techs. Imagine setting up a new auto shop and your data shows you that you need to have 20 full time techs working Monday through Friday, to handle the volume of service requests that you receive. So your options are 1) build a garage with 20 work bays and hire 20 techs or 2) Hire the 20 techs, but only build a 10 bay garage and buy 10 cheap transit connect vans to have 10 of the techs do mobile service appointments for the less equipment intensive repairs.

it’s cheaper to build the smaller brick and mortar site.

Recalls are always free regardless of where they are done.

I had the PCM and BCM update recalls done by the mobile service two days ago. No charge.

I've had multiple recalls done in my garage/driveway and they've all been free. A dealer here in the N/NW burbs of Chicago even does mobile oil changes.

My Mav has not been back into a dealership since I picked it up. :)

Imagine being a tech and having to roll up in some ghetto with thousands of dollars in tools and not allowed to carry to protect yourself. Or just trying to work in someone's steep driveway, dealing with a customer's dog in the rain and do your job 100%. All for no extra pay.

Ford advertises this service but not all dealers participate for good reason.

My dealer charges the same whether doing the work in my garage versus in their garage. Recalls are free in both.

I knew the recalls were free, I was just worried that you would be charged a separate charge for a dealership making the effort to send someone out just for you. It seems like that isn't the case. I'll try to schedule some recalls to be done at home then. Gonna have to do it soon before it gets insanely cold, I don't want to be making this guy work out in a blizzard or something haha.
