A question for AWD owners who have driven their Mav in the snow with & with out snow tires... Do they help??

The reason for my question is that I have a set of 225/65R17 Blizzaks currently mounted to rims for a 2016 Jeep Cherokee.(already checked, the rims won't fit the Mav) If snow treads do help I was considering buying a set of rims for my Mav and having the treads remounted. SWPA doesn't get as much snow as Buffalo NY but we do get snow.

One more question... Will 17s fit a 2025 AWD hybrid lariat 4k?? My research seems to say yes but I'm not 100% sure.

Do they help??
Absolutely 110%. Heck, I'd take a FWD Civic with winter tires over a 4x4 pickup truck on all-seasons. Winter tires stay soft and pliable in subfreezing temperatures and also have micro serrations in the tread blocks, which allow the tire to grip on ice.

Will 17s fit a 2025 AWD hybrid lariat 4k??
Yes. You could get steelies from an XL, or 17" XLT or Bronco Sport wheels, or maybe these ones from Costco.

Winter tires yes they help, blizzaks definitely work for snow. Had them on my mini cooper and my WRX and I was a maniac on them and never had an issue with traction.
Yes I also have a summer set of wheels and a winter set, winters use the stock tire wheel set up. I’d swap them onto my stock wheels if the oem ones were worn but I still have good tread on them.

while they'll help, they won't do as much as moving several hundred miles south!

😜

I used to live about an hour west of Pittsburgh (so probably about 20 miles s a bird flies ), and the studded tires on the rear of the crown Victoria sure helped for winter. I really can't remember if we had them for the e-150 when we replaced it.

AWD only helps you go forward.

Snow tires help tremendously to go forward but also to help stop and corner in winter conditions.
Also AWD doesn’t mean All Wheel Stop.
You still have to drive cautiously in bad weather.

Without question.
You could put them on steel rims, but if you keep an eye on FB marketplace there's a good chance you'll find a set of OEM aluminum wheels for a decent price, as I did.

To be fair almost anything will be better than the oem tires. And yes 17" will fit, I'm running 17x7.5" wheels with 235/65/17 Falken Wildpeaks

We put blizzacks on our fwd caravan and they helped alot. Doubt we will use " snow" tires on our maverick since its awd. Northern michigan here. The factory continentals did great in 8-10 inches of snow.

I’ve got 50 years in the frozen north under my belt and have tried them all (all season, mud and snow, studded snow, studless snow) and blizzaks make a huge difference. I’d rather drive a FWD with blizzaks than a AWD with all seasons. It’s the soft compound and the tiny siping. It’s also not really about snow performance, it’s about gripping the ice.

that said, I don’t agree that the stock all seasons are that bad for occasional snow duty. I wouldn’t send my wife out in a blizzard with them, so I’d evaluate how much you’ll depend on them during those couple really bad days. If your life could depend on them, someone will sell you a set of steel take-offs cheap and the tires are free! You just have to store a stack of tires.

Put Blizzaks on my new Mav yesterday. Strong recommendation if buying now, there is a $70 rebate. I got mine from Town Fair Tire. The tire tool on that website works really well matching tires.

FWD is a monster on slick roads. I could NOT get my FWD Fiat 128 to spin on ice and snow with hard cornering (high school parking lot) unless I pulled on the E brake while trying.

From all reports, modern "snow tires" are every bit as good as old studded tires. I would have 99% confidence in snow tires like Blizzaks on a FWD Maverick. There are conditions where you will be legally required to install chains, make sure to get a pair that fit without hitting anything while you corner (they go on the front wheels). I picked up a new set of cable chains at Goodwill for $5 that I have yet to test-fit, but they should fit.

On that note; ALWAYS practice putting on your chains in your driveway in good conditions so you don't have to suffer through figuring it out in a snowstorm with cars driving past just feet away.

Wait. There is still a Fiat 128 on the road? I figured they all caught fire and burned up by now.
