I made the same damn thing!
it’s nearly impossible to install/remove without being hinged.

Yeah, I installed my roof rack on the side rails. Roof rack is in the way. The divider won’t slide inIs it too difficult to install and remove without hinges?
I have one of these nets. Its works great for when I go food shopping, however it doesnt fit everything, and some larger stuff ends up sliding towards the front. I have a tri fold bed cover, however I dont feel like opening it to retrieve stuff that's rolled to the front or to climb inside to get it. This is why I am welding up a folding divider out of square thin wall steel tubing. I'm back on shift at work for the next 8 days, but the next time I am off, I will be starting on this project.Seriously, this is the innovation? Just get this instead for 16$ if you're the one in a million that has a rack that blocks a 2x6 from being pulled out.

Looks great and great idea. Obviously, everyone likes theirs better, but so be it. You have great storage flexibility this way.More flexible handling? ... space saving storage? ... lighter weight? ... if you are happy with yours, more power to you.
Lighter weight??More flexible handling? ... space saving storage? ... lighter weight? ... if you are happy with yours, more power to you.
Depending on the type of material used (wood or other than wood) which may compensate for the added weight of the hinges while adding flexibility ... lighter weight does require some trade offs.Lighter weight??
The reason for the hinge, is because he has a rack on his truck that prevents the board from being removed straight up.the description says 'for easy removal' but ... it's just as easy to lift and remove an uncut piece, and save $12, imo.

How much weight can your rack hold?Since I installed my roof rack on the side rails, I can't slide up the divider. DIY bed divider with lockable hinges. I used a lighter weight 1x8 pine wood x2 cut to 54 1/4, lightly stained black. Cut in half and install lockable hinges for easy removal. Cheap hinge a pair for $12
