I spent a lot of time overseas so sometimes my previous Truck would only have a few hundred miles over a years time. I don’t like to go more than a year between oil changes.

Yep just as the other posters mentioned, even if you don't drive it very many miles do one every year.

Oil does not break down when unused. If it helps you sleep at night, change it annually, but it's totally unnecessary.

You mean there is not a "use by date" on those containers of oil on the store shelf? I could have sworn I saw Autozone throwing out oil that was past it's date!
Liar.
Never happend.
Oh you're joking. 👍

There was a TV show a while back about barn finds or something.
Unopened metal oil cans from 50 something years ago were fine.
But of course the oil was quality and viscosity of the era. But fine for your 1955 John Deere.

Today, the scientists on the inter-webs will say "oil reacts with air" and "oxidizes".

I'm sure that is technically true. To a millionth of a degree in a static environment. (And a lot when constantly being whipped around in an engine, and not at all in a sealed container.) It won't be enough to do harm. Not enough for you or the vehicle to notice.

But changing once a year is common.
Mostly to avoid lost sleep.

Hope that helps.

Completely unrelated and pointless story.

I have a small lawn. About half a tennis court. I have a push behind gasoline mower. I've wanted an electric one for some time.

Deal with wife is, when the gasoline one dies, I can buy an electric one.

🤔

The lawn mower was given to me (by father in law) already a few years USED in 2016 when he moved into a retirement home. I did not like it. It was heavy and hard to maneuver on our sloped lawn. He has since passed away (2024).

I use it bi-monthly November to March and about weekly April to October.

Going on 10 years now I have NEVER EVER changed the oil in that thing. Hell. I have never even CHECKED the oil level in that thing. I want it to die. And this is why I'm now convinced it never will. Now it's a contest. Who goes first. Me? Or the mower.

p.s. with such a small lawn my 2.5 gallon gas can lasts over one year. So I use E10 over a year old. Mower just does not care.

I am not a Mopar fan but that is sweet AF!!! Sharp!!!
How can you not be a Mopar fan, specially late 60’s-early70’s, beautiful! I love ‘Graveyard Carz’ on T.V. Not Mark so much! And before my Mav, I’ve always owned older Chevy’s, still have an older pristine Camaro Z-28 in my garage next to to my 24 Mav!
