I went to rotate my personal strategic oil reserve from summer. What I learned is don't run out of gas. Lots of engineering was involved in making this process harder. I never had any issues with the old gas cap style. Keep that tiny funnel handy you might need it someday.

so how many "miles left" were showing when it died?

Just curious, when you bought the gas for your "strategic reserve" was the cost more or less that the cost would be today? I have tried to outguess possible future inflation and sometimes I have won and sometimes I lost!!:):censored: Guess it would average out over time and nice to have it if the gas pumps loose electricity in a storm and you have safe storage capability.

As a bit of a tree hugger, I like its design. Sometimes it is hard to believe but every little bit may help!!

I guess we won’t get an answer..... my guess is that it had been on zero for the last 50+ miles.....

I had 25 gallons on the shelf. I don’t let gas get more than six months old. The standard large funnels will work with 2022 Chevy's. You need that little Ford Dixie cup with the Fords.

So YOU rub out if gas and it’s Fords fault because they use a cap less fuel system. Wow.

I don’t think he ran out, he was frustrated with the funnels effectiveness and was warning us not to find ourselves in the predicament to need it.

I didn't like the cap-less system at first but after dealing with it for 14 years it doesn't bother me, and I think I prefer it. I have an extra funnel in the garage as well as in each vehicle. I also keep some gas that sometimes needs to be rotated. The main thing for me is that depending on the gas can, spout, and level of fuel in the can, sometimes its better inserting and rotating the funnel different ways.

I had this capless system on my Taurus and then went to a Prius without it. Recently I got my new maverick and I am glad to have the capless system back! It eliminates the likelihood of gas getting on my hands.

You are not putting gas in your maverick without the little ford funnel. It needs to be a certain diameter funnel.
HUH? I put gas in my Maverick ~every week without that funnel.

I see un-answered questions to you in this thread.

Ford and other OEMs have used that system for a dozen years +.
How much gas did you add to fill back up? Something in your post does not add up...
