Did we really need a complete redesign of the gas cap?

You need the little funnel if you're fueling up from a gas can, not from the pump. And the way I read it, he keeps several gas cans around, but doesn't like the gas to get old, so he'll fill his vehicle up from the cans every once in a while to cycle through it. I never saw where he said that the truck ran out of fuel.

Get better gas cans. I store my extra gas in 5 gallon steel jerry cans and you don't need the funnel if you have the right spout.

Those old gas caps cost some people a lot of money. If they were not installed properly it caused the check engine light to come. People paid shops to repair the problem of a loose cap. I like the capless system, I don't like having to push on the gas door to open it. Just my opinion.

I might be wrong but i think he is complaining about the restriction in the funnel .it tends to make a mess when you use it to put gas in the truck.i knocked the restriction out and no more mess.

$1 gas cap x Millions of vehicles sold = big profit
that's most definitely not the reason. the reason is that it avoids the check engine light caused by a missing cap or cap that isn't tightened enough. Ford dealers do not want to hear that noise.

instead they hear from people who didn't RTFM and are like 'hey I can't use my jerrycan," or "hey I can't siphon gas for my moped and I can't drive my truck until after I get diversion."

Yes, we did. The capless gas tank is great and convenient. I haven’t used a gas can on a vehicle in probably 30 years.
I think the question should be, do we really need to rotate our gas cans?

You've reminded me of how much I dislike gas caps... It's either tethered, which is annoying as it dangles loosely, or it's not, and it is one more thing to drop or lose if you're not careful.

Instead, just pop open the fuel door, fill up, wait 5s as indicated on the sticker, and close up.

Meanwhile, the funnel for my 2012 Focus is still in the back with the spare tire and scissor jack.

There is no question that gas has a shelf life and needs to be rotated FIFO.

When it smells like lacquer, that's no bueno.

I get a kick out of dystopian movies that have folks driving around 10 years after gas production had stopped. Not!!!
