Or at the very least, forgot to put everything back on after service.

Two weeks or so after dealer completed oil change, I looked under the truck for the first time.

The aerodynamic / splash guard is missing!!!

So I'm taking a poll:

Chew the dealership out on Monday and demand a replacement?

Or

With all the hokey pokey engine fire shenanigans and flimsy felt paper construction, consider myself better off without it. Will make future oil changes NOT done at this dealer much easier.

I really don't know how to feel about this. 😐
Just another reason why I don't let anyone touch my vehicles unless absolutely necessary. I would definitely call and ask tho.

Unreal! My guess is they don’t give a rats as$.

I am no longer able to service my own vehicles and was using a local Ford Dealer for my old F-150. You pay for “the Works” or whatever the hell they call it and get almost nothing. Don’t even rotate tires and leave a mess under the hood. I called out the Service Manager, he was embarrassed and gave me the next one free. BFD, same result the next time. All excuses on how it’s the new guy, blah blah blah. Will bring it to an independent shop next time, have had no issues with them yet.

OP, get your shield put back on. The vehicle should come back the condition it was brought in or better. Your dealer either made a mistake or cuts corners. Either way is no bueno. Good luck.

These shields are always a source of issues. If they haven't been reinstalled, some hardware has been damaged or left out and the shield is now hanging or has been ripped off. This is especially true when people have taken their vehicles to many of the quick oil change places. It happens quite frequently and is always a source of problems; especially if you live where there's snow to create more of a problem with catching a loose hanging piece under a vehicle. And to make it worse, most of these things aren't cheap either.

I just retired from working at a Ford dealer and you’d be surprised how many times that happened. Sad and disheartening but it does. A quick call to service advisor and if no reply then one to service manager should do the trick. Sadly telephone service is bad at some dealers/ quick lanes so maybe a trip in and they will take care of it.

A Dealership did this.
A Jiffy Lube did this.
A ... does this.
A recent Fox News article quoted a long time Air Marshall saying unruly airline passengers are up 47 percent the past couple of years, and part of the problem is he sees an increase in the steward/stewardess attitude "I don't care". (or as said here about oil changes - lazy) which I think many of us see more and more also.
So, my concern: Just how good of a job did they do on changing the oil? Is it topped off? Is the filter too tight or loose, etc?
And, with airlines, if that attitude is happening among employees ON the plane, what about those maintaining it? Makes me nervous about flying. I know we all gotta go sometime, but in plunging out of the sky steel tube ... not my desire!
Not to worry about oil changes; I do my own.
Oh, on oil changes: have a 2003 Grand Cherokee and have used conventional 10-40. Getting hard to find except in store brand. Used some on recent oil change. Got lifter clatter on not initial but next morning startup. Never did with Pennzoil so I now have an every four month shipping to me via amazon (free with Prime) for $22 for a 5 quart jug; around $10 less than at a parts store.

$5 says it's leaning against the wall behind the tech's toolbox because either they 1) noticed it when they walked back in the building and were afraid to admit they'd forgotten it for fear of getting chewed out or 2) found it, let the service advisor know and they're the one who should have called but didn't.

It's not some sinister plot and I promise it's not in the parts department's inventory. It"s probably leaning against a wall, just ride up there next time you're in town and ask for it back. They should make it right with a new one if they can't find it.

Why did you title the thread in such a way instead of "dealership forgot to reinstall splash guard after oil change"?

I will bet that they didn’t put them back on. I have had some experiences like that with the local Jeep dealer. Lost wheel lock key etc.
I would go back and take the service manager out and to the parking lot and show him.
Because of the 35% reduction in the workforce there is definitely a lack of experience.
The tech probably gets beat to turn as many vehicles as possible. As the expression goes “take your time we’re in a hurry” would be a better way to do things.
Just make sure that they don’t try to make you pay for their screw up.

Well, let me inform you...
I have a Mercedes Turbo. It also has belly pans for aerodynamics and so road crap doesn't get thrown up into that area during operation. All you need is some hunk of re-tread jamming your steering.. The Oil filter is on top of the engine.

A Mercedes-Benze- The dealer will change the oil from the top -NEVER REMOVING those belly pans. They suck the oil out of the dipstick using a vacuum pump device. the same device also used to change oil in watercraft with inboard engines. A Chevy 350 in an boat, the drain plug is an inch above the hull.. How do they get a drain pan under that to catch the oil? they can't So they suck it out.. So here is the score:

Mercedes Benz- Trained mechanics following factory procedures.
Ford Dealers- minimum wage goobers changing oil... hoping for payday for another tattoo.

Only Used Car dealers aspire to become Ford Dealers- or they inherited the dealership from the old man..

I find it hard to believe that the Mercedes factory book of oil changes says to suck out the oil from the dip stick tube. You will have a very hard time getting all the oil out that way. Little plastic tubing is hard to make it go where you want. Also it seems to me that the under carriage inspection is not being done if they do not remove the bottom shields. I would not be happy with that oil change.

I don't think you could get the oil filter off from the top so the suction tube is a non-starter for a proper oil change IMHO. That pan has to come down. I may end up making a couple of access panels for the filter and drain plug when the new wears off of this thing or I get sick enough of dropping the pan.

I would put it back on. Reason being, if you are still under warranty and you make a claim under warranty, they will find any excuse possible to deny or in some way blame you for the problem. I haven't checked my Ford warranty docs, but on my other vehicles there always has been a clause referring to modifications voiding the warranty. While stricly speaking, it may not sound like a mod to you and me, Ford may refer to removal of the [flimsy] shield as a modification to the way it was manufactured. I also think the shield provides protection from shards of tire from 18 wheelers being thrown up into moving parts like the serp belt, etc. etc. I have started taking photos when I leave a vehicle at the dealer. Even my wife's Lexus, I take photos under the hood and around the vehicle and Lexus service is superb.

It’s the attitude of the entitled passengers in 98% of inflight crew/passenger interactions. Flight crews dealing with entitled passengers and their attitudes on a daily basis for hours at a time, in confined spaces, is taking its toll. Someone changing oil in a vehicle is not working under similar conditions.
