I had the pickup at the dealer to have recall and other things done, and they claim that since they can't repro the grabby brakes issue, Ford will not let them perform TSB 22-2493. How did you folks get this addressed with your dealer, or were you able to repo on demand? I only get this condition sparingly, and I cannot repo on demand.

Should I complain to corporate?

The most up-to-date version of the TSB is 23-2059. The first step of any warranty repair is "confirming the customer's concern".

Action: Follow the Service Procedure to correct the condition on vehicles that meet all of the following criteria:

• 2022 Maverick
• 2.5L FHEV
• Illuminated MIL with DTC P0402 stored in the PCM
22-2493 involves reprogramming pcm, abs module, becm, & sobdm-c. Then checking for a DTC and possibly replacing differential pressure feedback egr sensor.
One of the criteria for this old TSB was " Brakes grab during light braking at or below 6.2 mph (10 km/h)"

This cannot be performed anymore, because it has been superseded.
23-2059 is similar, but is only supposed to be performed if CEL is on and DTC P0402 stored in PCM.
The repair procedure is broadly similar, but there is a different part number for the sensor.

So the dealer can't submit a warranty claim for 23-2050 unless that code is present. The new TSB went into effect 22 Feb 2023.

(If it is a service department you have a good relationship w/ they may be willing to do some of the updates anyway, and not submit a claim for them).

CEL? As in Check Engine Light? That brake condition has never thrown check engine light!

Reposes your Maverick? Am I understanding that correctly?

Reproduce as in the dealer cannot reproduce the problem the customer is describing.

This is not unusual. Most manufacturers now require verification of symptoms before performing software update. I am not an IT guy, so I do not know the logic. But with my current brand what we have found is that sometimes when updating a module that is not symptomatic it will crash the module. So for us they are VERY sticky about that. I don't know why that kind of thing can happen, but I've seen it for sure.

FWIW, 22-2493 didn't do anything to fix the grabby brakes.

I have found that using 'Normal' driving mode lessens the grabbiness, but it its still an issue. Very certain that the root of the issue is the handoff from regenerative braking to friction braking.

@Ford Motor Company , you listening?

When he said repo, I assumed they wanted to repossess his truck. That would make them scum. He clarified.

They split 22-2493 into 2 TSBs - 23-2059 for the MIL/CEL, 23-2060 for the grabby brakes. Presumably to ease the confusion of two different issues on one TSB, yet it seems to only be confusing everyone that much more.
