My dealer added too much oil.

I thought it would be easy to suck some out via the dipstick tube but the process wouldn't work. At all. Any ideas other than remove the drain plug a few revolutions and let it drip out the bottom?

I had 0.25" O.D. 0.17" I.D. Tube and syringe. Tight seal on syringe. Nothing would come up but dipstick is high. Dipstick is up to my fingernail. I used a hose a little longer than the dipstick

Yes I planned to suck out 16 to 24 syringe fulls whatever it took since I already had the materials, If it avoided me having to get under the truck.
Any ideas why this isn't working?

I’d take it right back to the dealer.

However, the syringe and IV tubing should work. Do make sure before you pull any oil out that you have let the truck sit for at least 30 minutes and re measure.

Is that the same dealer that didn’t put your splash guard/ plate back on?

Also I discovered there are barbs or ridges or ribs or constrictions in the dipstick pipe. It was difficult to get the hose to go down, and even harder to get the hose to come out, yet the hose is within 1 mm of the width of the dipstick.

Almost like the pipe has a slot, and is not round the whole way down. As if they don't want you to do this, because they made it really close to impossible.

Can't recall if it is the Maverick versus my Subaru, but one or the other does require the dipstick to go in a specific orientation when inserting it. I would bet the dipstick tube narrows to a "flat" slot instead of a circle. Test it out by carefully observing the orientation when pulling it out, rotate the dipstick 90 degrees and see if it will go back in. Other reason could be the tube curves quite a bit and it needs to flex to go around a bend, which would only work with the dipstick in one orientation, or 180 degrees from that orientation. So that the flat side of the dipstick can flex.

I think you are right that the dipstick being a flat bar (I've had some that were a steel cable) can only bend in one plane.

But the hose has freedom to bend in any direction.

Be very careful that you don’t end up with the hose or a portion of it stuck in the tube or the crankcase.
Stranger things have happened.

Looking like no easy way out here.

Can leave the oil high.

Or looks like I'm gonna have to go the traditional route and drain from the bottom. I'm mostly curious why this didn't work.

Drain it, refill it yourself. Not hard or expensive.

Have been a long-time boater the plastic tube down the dipstick tube with a pump on inboard motors is very common. As I remember there is also a rubber boot that goes over the dipstick tube that sucks out oil from the tube, years ago but didn't get the gunk from the bottom of the oil pan but would work for removing excess oil.

Take it back to the dealer and have them drain some out. It shouldn't be your problem since its their screwup.
Running the engine for more than a minute or two with that much extra oil in it is going to aerate your oil and cause an engine failure.
