After 4 months today of ownership of a XLT Maverick Hybrid w/LUX I am 90% satisfied. There is a lot to like. Fuel economy, cab space that is plenty even for a big guy, easy to use tech, visibility and lots of other things.

Things I don't care for are the Continental Eco tires are hard and noisy. Do not have to drive in winter conditions if I choose not to. $800 to $1000 to fix this when they really get noisy at half depth.

My main concern is the rudimentary suspensions at both ends. The front struts do not inspire confidence. If you hit a moderate up/raised bump at 40 mph or above, the suspension comes down hard. Was shocked the first couple of times by the harshness of the rebound. Did a early oil change and got to look around underneath. Other than the Aluminum control arms, the rest looks, well, a bit spindly. We all know what the rear is. There is no lipstick for this pig that will help. It rides better and with more control with a load. A full tank of gas makes a noticeable difference in demeanor and a softer ride.

Another more minor concern, is the long term supportiveness of the front buckets. Seem a bit soft already and need more and firmer cushioning in the rear part of the bottom cushion. But longer trips have produced no discomfort.

I have the Premium ESP $0 deductible, so repairs costs do not worry me. If I enjoy the vehicle long term I am protected.

Wishing everyone the best of journeys with their Mavericks

Heres mine. If you zoom way in you can see the middle part of the plastic lifting up and showing a gap. Not a big deal.

both of mine do this.

Ecoboost AWD does away with the twist beam. I don’t think Ford went out of their way to hide this 🤔

No they didn't, It is just sprung a bit stiff when the tank is under 1/4 full. I rode in a EB AWD and it rides a bit stiff also IMO, kinda similar really.

It does have a stiff ride, I actually prefer that. We had over 500lbs in the bed and I really didn’t notice much squat at all.

I appreciate your perspective. Does it feel as if the shocks are just not appropriately valved or just too little shock/strut for the task.

They seem to be the appropriate spring rate. The dampers are lacking rebound damping IMO. Very simple dampers.

Wow, a heavy cast/forged suspension part has the powdercoating removed while being machined to a certain specification and some people get sand packed in their &@gina:oops:
More traction.

I wonder if they paint the crankshaft after machining the rod and main journals 🤔
Don’t want any rust on your crank😳

I agree those surfaces should have been machined MUCH better AND painted. Truth be told, this is probably why everyone says to avoid the first production year of a new model vehicle. No manufacturer is immune from human failings when schedule must be met. I bought a 1982 Honda V45 motorcycle in its first year of production and it needed new camshafts within the first year (barely made it under warranty). I suspect the 2023 Maverick will have these areas cleaned up.
" Truth be told, this is probably why everyone says to avoid the first production year of a new model vehicle.", It will be interesting to see if this area is painted on the 2023's

If ya don't like the truck, I'll buy it.
Let me know, Karen.

Even so, they should have painted it after cutting. It's poor quality control by Ford. No other good explanation.

133 posts for this "issue". Incredible. I remember when people on forums hated the plastic gas tank door on the '05 F150. The posts went on for pages. I have one. Over 200K miles on it. Always parked outside the south Texas sun. Looks just like new. The gas tank door not the truck. The truck is all beat up.

... Even if Ford engineers wanted to avoid a layer of paint where the strut bolts to the knuckle, this is ugly. I would hope 🙄 issues like this would not exist in the 2023 MY and beyond. Note that in past years, outfits like Ford & GM have shipped a LOT of vehicles with unpainted steel or cast iron underneath (like differential housings). The Japanese brands have done better in this area.
I have owned mostly Fords my adult life, but I did once own a Mitsubishi Mighty-Max. I don't recall it being all pristine and polished underneath. I recall it being the same as any other vehicle except for a thick coat of nasty tar-like undercoat.

I'm surprised I hadn't seen this thread until now. This is SOP how most vehicles are manufactured - epecially those that were meant to sell starting at 20K. Complaining about surface rust on cast iron parts? Really? Having spent a lifetime under a lot of cars trucks and SUVs from a lot of manufacturers, it is an upgrade there's paint on some of those parts at all, let alone what's been machined off. As to the quality of the machining, the tie rod end looks just fine. The mating surface where the strut mounts you want it to be machined roughly so that it grips and cuts into the metal of the strut assembly so it does not slip as this is an alignment surface. From an engineering perspective you don't want two metal mating surfaces who need to be high interference to be painted anyway, as the paint layers could act as a lubricant to allow slippage at some point.
