I have owned mostly Fords my adult life, but I did once own a Mitsubishi Mighty-Max. I don't recall it being all pristine and polished underneath. I recall it being the same as any other vehicle except for a thick coat of nasty tar-like undercoat.

I thought about doing a light grey on mine, but was concerned about how it would look after it had some wear and tear on it.
Here is a picture of a steering knuckle/spindle I pulled off my 09' Escape. You'll notice the machined mating surfaces and it may be hard to tell, but it was never painted from the factory. I also posted up a pic of a knuckle with the OEM raw cast appearance.
There maybe some quality issues somewhere, but the paint on the spindle isn't one of them. It only stands out because the spindle was painted prior to the machining operation. Most factory spindles I've seen aren't even painted.
This is a nothingburger.
