That is NOT just a shipping coating. That is a DEEP GRIND.
Yeah IDK what is up with people excusing this. Still waiting on someone to post examples of any other new car with this "feature".

Apparently this group never experienced the S550 Mustang driveline vibration debacle.

Check out how many pages this thread is: https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/vibration-between-50-70-mph.15990/

Ford never fixed this - its an inherit design flaw in the driveline.

I like to remind folks that Ford is hell 'meh' with build quality.
That's a lot of pages but worth noting 52.6% of people who responded do not have the issue, so I'm not sure about that being an inherent design flaw.

And to be fair, I had this same issue on a 2015 Infiniti Q50. I know how frustrating driveline vibrations are from that experience. No one could fix it and I ended up selling it at a loss after just 3 months because I could not stand it one more minute.

You bought a new mini pickup for $20k... you can't compare it to an F-150. You get what you pay for. I am thrilled to get a fully loaded Maverick hybrid that gets amazing fuel economy and costs me $32k brand new with some great options. I am not comparing it to the Panamera that my wife drives. Different cars, different price points, different purposes. If you want more, pay more.

What type of failure issues do you see that this will cause? Heck you better not park by the beach for a few days if this concerns you, your brake rotors will have surface rust them. Yeah it’s an eyesore that can be fixed with a few squirts of rust inhibitors.

For me it’s a non issue.. I have a 2021 Ranger that shows surface rust on some of the undercarriage components.

Yeah a "deep grind" on a chunk of iron like that is absolutely nothing as long as it torques good.

Looks OK to me as long as they are similarly "ground to size" on all Mavericks. The spindle looks beefy!
As someone mentioned earlier, looks like they are using the same spindle for two or more vehicles and grinding each to fit the application.

My thoughts exactly. Not sure the OP can prove this will cause failure. Not exactly a warranty issue if it functions correctly for years. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Would it be a big deal/pain/cost for Ford to rustproof the undercarriage parts B4 they were assembled? Its a small thing that might help a truck go a long way...I know I owned a '09 XLT 4wd ranger.... B4 assembly is my point....

It's a mass produced part on a $23k truck. They cast it, coat it, and final machine it for assembly.
Spend some of the money you saved on Blaster Surface Shield! I'll be protecting my new Maverick with this stuff when I get it. From my experience, it works very well!

I'm sorry for having higher expectations after 10 months of waiting. Maybe my concerns are unwarranted. Maybe after 30 years of driving I shouldn't have expected anything less from Ford. It's my first one and I'm feeling like it may be the last. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I just went down and saw some similar light surface rust in the strut/spindle area on both our Honda Odyssey and Mazda CX-5. I've seen this on before on a Nissan Frontier's driveshaft and on brake rotors on many vehicles.
