I sure this has been covered elsewhere, but I couldn't find it, so here goes.

"Cute?" Miatas are cute. The similar Honda S2000 is cute. My mid-1960s Sunbeam Alpine was cute. Maybe the Mini Cooper. But the 2022 Ford Maverick? Nah, I don't think so.

So, "Little?" I did some limited, non-rigorous, searching into the early versions if small pickups. (Feel free to check my work.) The examples I chose were 2 wheel drive, short beds and extra cabs when I could find them. The examples I used were: 1. first generation Ford Ranger Supercab, 1983-1988(?), 2. 1995 Toyata Tacoma, 3. 1995 Chevy S-10.

The Maverick is heavier and wider than any of them. The Maverick spec. is several inches taller than any of them, but I think that includes the antenna. Taking the height to the roofline, i'm calling it a wash. The Maverick is longer than the Ranger, near equal to the Toyota, and a few inches shorter than the S-10. So it's really only "little" compared to the newer behemoths we've become accustomed to commute back and forth to work in.

So why am I writing this!? 'Cos' I'm tired and bored with the reviewers comments about the Maverick being a "cute, little truck." I guess it was supposed to be a "cute" thing to say. It wasn't. Still isn't.
I agree! I'm too much of a woman for a stinking cute truck!

That was actually my first reaction. I had not seen one up close let alone sat in one before I drove mine off the lot. Now granted I am coming off of driving a Lancer for 12 years, but small wasn’t my first reaction. In fact no one else has said that either. Even the guys with jacked up F150 has said they really like the look and practically of it. Put some flares on it and wider tires and I would say looks like a bulldog, but not cute.

I don’t care about my mileage, your mileage. The size of your truck vs mine. I could have bigger payments too or tap retirement but choose not to. Hell, I don’t even call it a truck. I call it my Maverick. Fun to drive and I like how it looks. I’ve had Rangers and F 150’s. This truck fits my needs. Plywood and bikes still hang out the back of regular bed length full-size trucks.

But it is a little truck. Sure you can compare to trucks who are so old most people on this forum weren't even alive or driving (broad brush I know I know) but objectively of anything on the road that is a truck it IS little, that's the point.

Cute...sure whatever someone wants to call it. When I tell people about it I say it's Fords new mini truck. So if anything I'm reinforcing the fact that it's little. I bought it specifically because it was little. Anyways I know you're just pointing out the lack of "respect" from reviewers etc but I guess we all see it how we want to
Where I live, the roads are still full of those "old" little trucks. I see them all the time. No need to be an old geezer who happens to remember them.....though I suppose I would be in some circles. 😉

I'm looking forward to getting my Maverick (someday) because it's going to replace my 04 Ranger. What I love about the Maverick is the "footprint" is nearly the same as my Ranger, so it will fit in my garage. Only now with Maverick I can take 2-3 more people in comfort if I choose AND still carry stuff in the bed! Call it cute, call it little, I just want to call it mine! 🦄

It may be small but it moves me and my 3 growing grandsons to all of their activities and we are not shoulder to shoulder in the cab. The bed is small but it will haul everything I need to haul. If it cannot, we'll that's why I have a trailer. I had an Isuzu and it was smaller but would haul and tow everything I needed moved. I expect the same from the maverick.

You didn’t go back far enough with your research on small pickups, I have a 1930
Model A pickup and it’s really small.

Chance301. You had a Sunbeam Alpine, too! How cool! It wasn't a great car, but I loved it.
It was a fun car! The Lucus “prince of darkness” electronics system with a positive ground was always a problem. Wouldn’t mind having another one though. I bought it used and found out years later it had belonged to my wife’s Dad before I’d met her. It was actually her car that her father traded due to the reliability issues.

The Maverick is big compared to the Small trucks I grew up around. The 70s thru 90s Datsun, Toyotas, Old Ranger Chevy S10. But yea, people nowadays are accustomed to giant trucks as Normal size.

I saw an old Ranger single cab on the road the other day and thought how small it looked compared to the Maverick.

Here is my Maverick next to an old style Ford Ranger XLT at the Home Depot. I think this is a better comparison than putting the Mav next to an F-150 or a Super Duty.
