There are 2 options to get a trailer hitch

  • 4K trailer towing package ($745)
    • hitch plus a bunch of other stuff to support towing needs
  • Trailer hitch w/ 4 pin ($100)

Is the 4k towing package constrained since it has a hitch included?

Might sound dumb but I've not seen anything from Ford that says the 4K towing is constrained, only a component that could be ordered by itself, or with the package.

Only the stand-alone hitch. The wiring harness is constrained so they are prioritizing packages over stand-alone options.

Nailed it. Resources are being allocated to the $745 option and not the $100 option.

Additionally, there is the also the XLT Lux and Lariat Lux which include the hitch. So, those will also be scheduled before the standalone because the rest of the package requires the hitch in order to be complete.

I believe it's $745, must be EB and AWD so that's gonna add a little profit margin. So not just $745.

FYI,,, I ordered two XLT Ecoboost with only the $100 stand alone hitch in September . I have both trucks.
Priority code and Allocation , that is what gets your truck built. If you tow, don't remove it, it will get built and the aftermarket wiring is :poop::poop:

4K tow pkg is $745 but requires AWD which is another $2,220. The trailer hitch with 7 & 4 pin connections is included along with numerous other features and drive train related equipment

the xlt lux pkg includes the trailer hitch which is $1730 and includes numerous other features

the constrained trailer hitch only is $100, changes are slim you order would be built in the current time frame

then there's aftermarket like Curt, etc. probably neighborhood $600 with wiring, plus labor

That's true, it's $800 plus the $2,220 for the required AWD

I believe this is indeed true but it should also be mentioned that some trucks with just the stand-alone hitch are still being scheduled before those with packaged hitches. There are a lot of mysterious variables involved in the scheduling process and possibly some voodoo magic as well.

Correct, there's a lot of other factors going into it.

Constrained just means that your order is going to get pushed back IF a constraint exists. If Ford is building 500 trucks that week and has 500 hitches, then you'll get scheduled. If, instead, they only have 400 hitches on hand then the other trucks with luxury and tow packages are going to get priority first. If they end up with extra hitches the next week then you're golden.

Constrained just means that your order is going to get pushed back IF a constraint exists. If Ford is building 500 trucks that week and has 500 hitches, then you'll get scheduled. If, instead, they only have 400 hitches on hand then the other trucks with luxury and tow packages are going to get priority first. If they end up with extra hitches the next week then you're golden.
All else equal - yeah that's my understanding as well.

One example of when things might unfold differently though is when two dealers are involved. Suppose dealer A has allocations for the month and only has orders with stand-alone hitches. Dealer B on the other hand has orders with packaged hitches but they have no more allocations during the same scheduling period. Even if hitch capacity is limited during that production window, I think you might see an order with a stand-alone hitch from dealer A get a VIN while the packaged hitches at dealer B sit waiting.

I could be wrong but I think Ford has to make allocations a key factor in scheduling so they can ensure each dealership regularly gets enough inventory to turn a profit.

My XLT came with the hitch package included but not the whole 4K towing package. luckily my trailer is very light, 250lbs tongue weight and I usually add a couple hundred more lbs in accessory weight. A good motor cycle could tow mine trailer, in fact that is what is it made for.
Good look into having the trailer color matched to the Area51 truck. Just cause.

My X L Hybrid with stand alone hitch and copiolt and sliding rear window got scheduled for the week of 6/5 so it is happening!
