Trailer Hitch Delay?

I have a Area 51 Maverick XLT w/ Ecoboost AWD on order with spray-in bed liner, full spare, 4 pin trailer hitch, slash guards, Touchlink lighting, hood deflector, and floor liners. I call my dealer today to check my order and see if I can change anything to speed up the order. He tells me mine order in Priority 2 and can't be changed. He also said that the two things that could hold it up could be the slash guard and the 4 pin hitch.

I found that surprising and told him I expected the spray-in bed liner and splash guards to be the hold up. Then he tells me he'd been hearing it was the drop-in liners and the 4 pin hitch that have been holding things up. Anyone know anything about this?

I think it is anything bed related - really almost any one accessory could delay orders with the way industrial delivery is operating currently (not just talking Ford here, or vehicles - Covid has just messed with everything to varying degrees!). From what I gather, any of those bed related items that are not part of a LUX package could cause a delay. So if you have spray-in liner as a stand-alone item it could cause a delay (though I have seen a few window stickers posted where it is a stand-alone item - they are being built).

I would suspect the 4-pin hitch is maybe not delayed, but likely also not prioritized against any AWD builds that include the tow package. Finally, you mentioned you have splash guards - those have been a known constraint almost since day 1.

If the hitch is delayed. You can check with Etrailer.com and see if they have one available and order one. Putting a hitch on a truck is easy and the wiring is already done. You will probably save some money too.

The factory hitch option for the non-tow package is just $100 - for those not getting the tow package it is 100% a no-brainer add-on. I can't imagine Ford will be making many Mavericks without the hitch included. An add-on aftermarket hitch will never be a reliable as factory, and would likely cost minimum $3-400.

FWIW i looked at e-trailer before i placed my maverick order to see if they may have mention of a class 2 hitch (1.25") for my bike carrier, they didnt. i re-checked today and they still dont but they do list a bed cover now. also, i have bought many class 2 hitches from them over the years and i'll say average price is about $125.

If you are buying your hitch install from UHual it would cost $300-400

Fords hitch is probably made by Curtis or Draw tite it isnt going to be any better or more reliable than an aftermarket. As long as a person can line the hitch to holes in the frame and know how to use and read a torque wrench it is done. After checking a manufacture install on one of my trucks pulling an airstream I have made sure that I install them from now on.

Waiting a prolonged time for a truck because of a hitch is not worth it, IMO.

If anyone does get a factory installed hitch and will tow anything of value make sure to borrow a torque wrench and check the bolts.
