Just wondering if anyone has found a way to change the default drive mode from normal to eco (or any other mode for that matter).

One thing I like about my current car (a 2015 Kia Forte) is that I was able to put it in eco mode and just leave it there.

I thought I read that folks were trying to find a way to either change the default or to have it stay with whatever it was on last, but can't find the thread. Might have been elsewhere that I read it.

What is the difference between eco and normal ? Gas mileage, power use, starting from a stop, etc. differences ?

It will allow the electric motor to propel the vehicle a little bit longer than it would in normal mode before the gas engine kicks on. It also lowers the throttle sensitivity to prevent rough acceleration and unecessary ICE (internal combustion engine) starts while driving around town. Probably makes a 2mpg difference or so.

I'm not 100% sure, but it feels like in eco mode regen braking is slightly more aggressive, and the gas engine turns on less readily. When in eco mode it feels like the gas pedal is a little less sensitive.

Why not just not have an eco mode and have the normal operate like the eco? Is there a down side to always being in eco?

From what I understand Eco delivers a bit less performance in exchange for a bit better gas mileage. Sport is likely the opposite.

In my Kia there was no noticeable downside. Drove well over 100K with Eco as my default mode.

I've only done a couple miles in sport, but it seemed like it just left the gas engine on as long as you were moving. No electric drive at all, unless you were stationary.

I rarely go over 65 so as long as it runs well at or below that speed, it seems like the way to go. Is there a button to switch or does it have to be done through the video screen ?

I'm not 100% sure, but it feels like in eco mode regen braking is slightly more aggressive.
This is one of the primary benefits as when you take your foot off the accelerator the regen is about twice as aggressive and you are much more likely you will get 100% braking report and thus more power being returned to the HV battery.

This results in no wasted power and no actual application of the physical brakes so the brake pads will last a very long time. Less maintenance costs.

Hopefully Ford releases a software update that gives you the option to make the vehicle memorize the drive mode.
A more probable solution is someone figures out how to default it to ECO mode using ForScan.

Manual (pages 226-227) states:
"ECO Mode: For efficient driving. This mode helps deliver maximum fuel efficiency and helps to increase driving range".
"Normal Mode: For everyday driving. This mode is a perfect balance of excitement, comfort and convenience. This is the default mode after each ignition cycle".

Many drivers probably do not prefer the more aggressive brake regen when you let off the gas.

There was discussion on the default drive mode but I am unaware of anyone posting a solution I am certainly hoping that eco default can be done as that's my normal function. Eco-eat even = put $saved by most of time drinking water when eating out, putting $$ into jar at home (when drink water at home put $0.40 into jar. All this goes into Roth & savings (last year was $1,640.10🤗). This year if/when 0% 36mo happens will supplement payment.🤗
