"Despite building more than 80 percent of its American-sold vehicles in the U.S. – the highest share of any Detroit automaker – Ford Motor Company still imports many parts, which have been hit hard by tariffs. Ford CEO Jim Farley discusses with Kris Van Cleave why he says President Trump's tariffs, which have cost Ford $2 billion, are jeopardizing the company's investments in America – and may give an advantage to their competitors. He also explains why he drives a Chinese-made electric vehicle."

I have my Maverick so I don't worry about the T word. I have a ten year 100k mile warranty so I don't have to care about costs of parts if my car needs to be fixed. Someone else is paying. And by the time I might have to pay maybe the top dog at that time will have lowered the T word.

One would think everyday Ford is finding sources and contracting with companies that build those once imported parts now in America
Mr. Farley addressed that mentioning that the parts would still be more expensive as we would being paying American wages instead of tariffs and that many of those parts simply aren't made in the US.

The BYD and Zeeker EVs are on another level of quality compared to what we have in the US and that primarily why you can't get them here.
Or the 100% tariff on Chinese EVs might be doing the heavy lifting....

I got mine, f everyone else is an accurate summary of how we got into this mess.

Didn't care for Jim Farley's opinion on the shortage of auto techs recently (totally out of touch on why the profession is in dire straights), but in general he seems like a pretty level headed CEO trying to steer an old, complicated juggernaut like Ford through very difficult seas.

I agree with your sentiment. I was going to reply to that one as well pointing out that some of the concern is keeping these folks employed, not just making sure we all have cheap cars.

The OP made a completely worthless thread here since he didn't even post the article he was referencing.
I beg to differ. I did include the link to the CBS website containing the video. The web application imported it as a 'media link'. I do find that this web application does hiccup a lot sometimes showing the video in a title card or sometimes just showing a sick computer face icon, and while it tries to optimize for phone browsers, it doesn't do a very good job.

I like what he had to say about the ev charging infrastructure! He called Musk after doing a road trip in the Lightning and asked him if he would let Ford have access to Tesla’s network! I sold my MachE mainly because of the charging issues on road trips!!
