On Wednesday morning, my Ford Maverick Lariat stopped working with my iphone 13 mini. It would show the car screen with the phone button grayed out. When I tapped the button, it would just say that some features had been disabled for my safety while driving. It would show this message when the car was parked, too.

I've gone through a whole list of attempted fixes. Turning the phone on and off, disconnecting bluetooth, reconnecting bluetooth, upgrading the IOS to 18.7, checking bunches of settings on the phone, trying a USB instead of lightning cable. It's at the point where Siri will play podcasts for me, but it still won't show me the apps on the phone. I may have turned off Carplay on the car, but can't figure out where to check that.

Has anybody heard of something that changed recently with Carplay? Is there a website that can definitely diagnose the issue instead of all these unspecific "check this setting" options?

You might confirm that on your phone, Settings > General > CarPlay your Mac is listed. If it is, you might forget and re-pair. If not, re-pair.

Apple CarPlay is set up from your IPhone - not the vehicle. I’ve had to do a reconnect once on a previous car after a friend linked their Android.

If you haven’t tried it yet - go to the CarPlay setup on your phone and redo?

I have not updated to Ios 26. The phone is Iphone 13 mini so it's compatible, I just haven't upgraded.

It's a 2022 Maverick with the small screen.

The iphone does not show a car under Carplay. It tells me to hold down the audio command button on the steering wheel. All that happens is Siri activates.

Weirdly, Spotify is now broadcasting over the blue tooth, which it didn't do before.

I've seen similar issues helping friends. I would remove all connection settings between the car & your phone on both, then re-pair them and allow carplay.

I had the same issue and was seriously frustrating as I was driving back from unfamiliar airport. I had to stop on side of road and reboot. I think it must have been connected with iOS 26.

Solved! I did a soft reset, and then unpaired the iphone from bluetooth and did another soft reset. Then re-paired to bluetooth and when I plugged in the phone, still nothing happened. Something on the edge of the screen made me swipe left and I found a bunch more settings, including Apple Carplay. Somehow my phone was listed twice. I deleted both entries and then plugged in the phone. Carplay started pairing and it all works!

I'm sorry, I just didn't realize more settings existed on the Ford screen and didn't have all the tools at my disposal.

I'll do my best to remember disconnect everything, soft reboot, re-connect.

Thank you all!
