CarPlay acting up?

All of a sudden my truck defaults to am or fm rather that Airplay. I use a wireless dongle. It’s worked fine for months and know I have to manually select airplay every time I start the car. Any ideas as to what caused this change?

Do you have the truck options for WiFi enabled and auto-updates?

Perhaps there was finally one - and this is side-effect.

The non-Sync3 update I got for the rear-view camera recall, is constantly putting my screen back to Home, rather than the FM screen I had it on at turn-off.

Might also confirm if anything on phone related was upgraded.

I have not connected to wifi that I know of.

What dongle do you mean? Pretty sure the airplay and android auto use Bluetooth instead of WiFi for the dash screen communications. Is your phones Bluetooth on?
Every phone built in the last 100 years has Bluetooth so not sure why you have to use a dongle.

And CarPlay doesn't run over BT; you can watch the head unit display disconnect the phone when CarPlay fires up.

Apple just released iOS 18.4.1 which is supposed to fix a bug with Carplay on some vehicles. Might check it for your problem.

Doesn’t matter. I’ve tried two different dongles, Bluetooth and direct wired CarPlay. They all have issues eventually and drop off sporadically.

Bluetooth connects to Wi-Fi for data stream. Bluetooth handles smr texts and short packets. Dropping out occurs when cell towers lose connection.

Sorry, didn't know the 2023's had to connect via USB cable only.
I have a 2025 Eco-B, and it definitely uses Bluetooth, I'm using android auto.

For the OP, I'd definitely keep shopping around for an adaptor that is more compatible with his phone.

Reply to my owm message, I think android auto using both, WiFi and Bluetooth. Will do some reading up.
