Wow - that really sucks. sorry to hear that. Yeah, you're correct about being realistic - sh*t is gonna happen no matter how much we try to take care. Things r out of r control. Thanks 4 sharing
Thank You.
I just didn't expect a scratch so soon. It is, what it is
Eventually it always happens.
No matter how protective and caring you are you can't control what other people do. I let my wife at the entrance but at almost 70 years old. I don't feel like parking in the South 40 and walking in 110 plus degrees to the store. I also don't feel like letting other people's actions control mine.
That is why I feel tunnel car washes are no big deal.
Take Care.

Hi there! I like keeping my new (2022) Maverick XLT Clean. I'm a little worried about automatic car washes. I just drove it through a new Royal Farms car wash. It's the kind where your car stands still and the rollers, waters, etc work around you. When I got home I noticed a small sliver of rubber sticking out on the roof. It looks like the large blow dryers at the end of the car wash were so powerful it lifted out the little rubber trim piece in the right rear corner of the roof water track. Has this ever happened to anyone? I pushed it back in, but it is not very tight. My guess is a special tool is needed to push the rubber strip in tighter. It's really only a small, cheap, black strip 2-3 inches long and 1/4 Inch wide. Anyway, seriously thinking of hand washing at home. I love my truck, but I really think they cut corners on some things. I'm seeing a lot of car washes pop up everywhere these days. My guess is some vehicles are just more delicate than others when it comes to high power water, brushes, air, etc.

thanks everyone. looking 4ward to this truck club!
Mine happened within the first few months and they had to remove the headliner and a few months later the other side did it & never fixed it so I always use car washes (1 still is fixed and the other isn’t) and I’ve gotten over 92k miles since I bought it new in 2021. So if you get it replaced under warranty shouldn’t be an issue but yes they did have early problems.

Personally, I don't like or use auto car washes. I rather leave my vehicles dirty until I get 'round tuit.

Even the so called touchless car washes slap the car and cause micro scratches in the paint.

I realize my climate is different, no snow, no salt, so I might feel differently if I had low temps. In winter, such as it is, I use a bucket of warm water.
Here you go!

Before my Mav I had a 2018 Huyndai Kona. First time through one of those kind of carwashes it ripped off my fin antenna. I didn’t notice until I got home and called them. I asked if they had it - they said “no but is it a Huyndai?” They said it happened a lot. I was quoted $500 to fix it. Got one on Amazon for $25.😡 I will never put the Mav through that kind of carwash-in Hawaii they did not have DIY wash bays like our new home in Rio Rancho, NM..tons of them and it’s (the truck) cleaner and $7.50 vs. $15 ($20 in Hawaii).

I had a issue with that piece as well as some others on mtc . It wasn't caused by a car wash but a manufacturers issue . I pushed it back down in slot and put some clear silicon caulk on it to keep it down . problem solved . you can get it fixed at dealership under warranty .

The car washed in a large automated machine that uses big whirling brushes can cause micro scratches in the paint which end up giving the unit a duller finish over time. So It's Hard to beat a good clean water, hand washed and dried unit. Now Isn't It?

I don't use the automatic washes but the same thing happened to me with the hand held sprayer and I'm not tall enough to spray the high pressure directly on it. I just push it back in when I'm done.

Use the Permatex adhesive - will expand contract in weather and lasts a very long time

I refuse to use anything but touchless. Even then, sparingly. They have haesh chemicals. Hand wash.

Car washes around me are touchless, but the bigger nicer one in town has the spinning wheels of death. I used to drive through it often. It's a risk and I've had streaks and crap left on my vehicle from it before. But I still go through it when I'm in town because it's easier than agitating the surface myself lol. Hopefully in a couple years I'll have my own wash station at home that I can also use during winter months.

I fixed mine too. Unfortunately the black piece at the end snapped in the removal process but I was able to glue it back together.

Touchless only, or hand wash. But the nearest touchless is 20 minutes away. Anything close has those floppy brushes or whatever and I refuse.

I haven't washed mine yet. Cactus gray is great at hiding dirt. Some dust on the rear bumper from the gravel roads and the front bumper is coated with bug guts, but I'd have to wash it every time driving to keep it clean. I just don't have the time for that. Its a truck.

I just bought this from Harbor Freight

I have the same thing. However, my city has hard water with all those nasty minerals that dry real fast and harden into the paint causing me to have to wax it out. I now go to the spray wash because they use soft water.
