I have the same bug guts on that bumper's approximately 4" of forward facing painted surface. Already noticed a tiny rock chip there as well.I haven't washed mine yet. Cactus gray is great at hiding dirt. Some dust on the rear bumper from the gravel roads and the front bumper is coated with bug guts, but I'd have to wash it every time driving to keep it clean. I just don't have the time for that. Its a truck.
I just installed some strips of this. It's supposed to hold up for eight years, time will tell.

For a first timer I found it to be a pretty big PITA, even had to scrap and redo a strip (a good reason to get the 96" roll). Despite a couple small bubbles I think I can work out, I'm glad I did it.
I found the biggest "keys" are making sure the surface is not just clean but as spotless as possible, then using plenty of soapy water. That and be patient. As long as you don't get the stuff dirty it is pretty forgiving as far as repositioning before setting it down with a small squeegee -- if you're using lots of soapy water.
