I know the L button and I have been to car wash twice but had never had to push it. I just put the shifter on N and it continue to run on the tracks. I stayed in the truck the whole time.
It goes from N to Park automatically IF YOU OPEN THE TRUCK DOOR (to get out)......... unless you press L after.

It will stay in N for 30 minutes only.
Plenty for a car wash.

Thanks, good to know. And I did read the owners manual. Also turn off your brake hold button, the conveyor doesn’t like that either.

This is one of those scenarios where the nany features go from laughable to frustrating.

Foreseeable future where to open the hood of your vehicle you need to enter a secret code via the entertainment console or via a scantool. Reasoning, all of us civilians are gonna hurt ourselves in there.

Code to disable all nany features should be available:
Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, start (select start - with passenger).

I mean, what harm can one do if you have 30 lives 🎮. Ohh, now that I used that emoji, I want it to also enable drive by wire(less controller)😁

Anyone have experience running the Mav through a car wash where you have to get out of the car to run it down the track? The L button would need to be pressed to keep it in neutral. I am not sure if the attendants would know how to do this. Or if this feature where it goes into park when you open the doors is used on many other makes or models. There is one car wash I like where they wash it by hand as it runs down the track. So far I have only used a touch less where you sit in the car.
Useful info. I was aware it goes into Park if you open the door to prevent unintended roll-away but was not aware of L and pushing the button to keep it in N. I supposed tow truck operators know this as well. Meanwhile, only copious amounts of rain here in SoCal, no car wash needed. :)-

I am concerned that if you electrical power there is no way to get it into neutral for the tow truck drivers. I think there is a pull string somewhere to do that. But how many tow truck drivers know how to do that! I have an MR2 Spyder with a SMT trans that got stuck in gear. The tow guy dragged it on the flatbed. Made me cringe.

I just leave FOB in the truck, put it in park and get out. Those guys know what to do when the my truck is next to go on the conveyor for hand wash. Besides, the car wash company is responsible for any damages caused by them...

I went into one the other day and forgot my auto-park thing was turned on. Who knew the track could pick up a truck? lol It was like hitting a reverse speed bump.

I worked in a car wash at a store called Two Guys was like a Walmart before there was a Walmart. Anyway the standard instructions. Put in neutral foot off the brake. Seen a few cases where you see the brake lights come on car jumps on the rollers. Even seen one guy drive off the track. Driver insists he did not apply the brakes. Damaged the car and the wash. I always made sure there was at least one car length open between cars.

A jump box can provide power to put the truck into N. Also good for, well, jumping a vehicle w/ a dead battery; especially where there's not enough room to safely park another vehicle next to the vehicle w/ the dead battery.

For 2023 Maverick, Page 183 (starting page) of owners manual discusses how to use L button to put the Mavetick in neutral.
No wonder I have to keep a trickle charger on my hybrid all the time, too, too, too many electronics.
What happened to the lever between the front seats or the peddle for your left foot to depress. It's just a car people, not an SR-71 for crying out loud!

On the Hybrid, it can be used for slowing while going downhill, without using the brakes (to a point). It significantly increases the regenerative braking using the Hybrid's motor/generator to slow the vehicle, while also charging the HV battery. Free charging and minimizes brake pad & rotor wear.

GPSMan posted in the past that using L all the time for on-demand regenerative braking is hard on the HV batteries, especially in hot weather because it increases the battery temperature. This can also cause the A/C compressor to run more, to cool down the battery. IIRC, he suggested using it only for intermittent downhill braking assist, as suggested in the user manual, due to the heat issue.
