I have a 2025 Maverick on order, with a February build date.

The more I've read through this forum, the more I consider the 12 volt battery problems a dealbreaker for me. Unless the ’25s have a fix for the problem, I'm considering bailing out of the deal.

I was happy to hear that the ’25s are now supplied with an AGM battery. But is there any change to the BMS? Does there need to be? Has Ford really addressed this for 2025?

I went to the Auto Show at the San Diego Convention Center today. Ford was there, and perhaps a knowledgeable Ford rep could enlighten me about the ’25s without having to mention past battery sins, with a "here's what's new regarding the electrical system...".

The show was large and well attended. There was a ’24 Maverick XLT hybrid (which was mobbed; people crawling all over it), and a ’25 Lobo, locked up tight and unattended.

I snagged a guy with a Ford name badge. Told him I had a question about the Mav electrical system. Was he able to answer that? He said in fact every "Ford" person walking around was just a "paid demonstrator," not a Ford employee. After further discussion, I realized the most I would get from him was the range of available colors and ballpark prices.

My "demonstrator" called in another guy, "he's our best man," I was told. The new guy had never heard of the Maverick battery problem, so he said. So while it was nice to look at the shiny objects on the convention center floor, as a fact-finding tour it was a total nothingburger.

The burning battery question still burns. I have no idea if I'll get an answer, or in fact, if I'll end up purchasing the vehicle when it arrives.

If the recall included the 2025 MY then they wouldn't deliver the trucks.

They are delivering 2025 MY trucks while earlier models are being held.

I think you have a valid concern. Since my install (about two months ago) of an AGM battery in my 2022 Lariat hybrid, I've had no issues. Most of the issues with the OEM flooded battery did not appear until 3, 4 months or longer after purchase, so I'm thinking it might be several months before anyone can made a judgement on the 2025's.

I can't find the article atm but I read they were working on a software fix for the battery drain issue that should release early 2025 (wouldn't be surprised if the 2025 came with this already fixed). However I don't believe I have heard of any deep sleep issue on people who switched to AGM and did a BMS reset.

The average poster on here will know more about the Maverick than the folks at those shows. That's just the way it works, unfortunately. Same experience I had at the show here in Seattle, but to be fair to those folks, that was 2021...

I wouldn't be concerned about the battery issues enough to not buy the truck if there's nothing else giving you pause.

I bought a new 2024 and had the battery problems. So I sold it and took a loss. Who needs that kind of problem. I was told it will be fixed some time in 2025 as a computer issue. Ford is guilty here selling a vehicle with problems, how can they get away with it. I will never buy another Ford.

Its the same BMS, so you can expect the same battery problems until the fix comes out later this quarter. The 25s are so new that nobody will have a battery failure yet, so YMMV.

If you’re doubting the reliability of a vehicle before you purchase it, you’re going to be looking for problems every time you get into it.

I suggest you pass on the Maverick.

I'm in coastal North County, San Diego. Cold is 40 F. in my garage. I got my 2024 Lariat hybrid in November 2023. the VIN was the #3,170th assigned. I have not had issues that made me regret my purchase.

Yes, if it sits for days the interior lights don't come on. But it always starts. I do a combination of city and freeway, the I-5, and with winter fuel get 45.4-45.9 mpg. I use it as a work truck as well as daily driver. In the year + that I have owned it, I had all three software recalls done at one time by the mobil tech. No other issues. It is my first Ford ever.

The weakest link is most Ford dealers are not great. I try to keep it away from the dealer and do my own routine maintenance, oil/filter changes etc. It is a nice driving vehicle. Despite all I read on the forum, I like my trucklet. As it approaches the 3yr/36k mile warranty expiration, I will re-evaluate whether to keep it. It has 9k miles now.

EDIT added 1/11/25: I have gotten several letters from different law firms regarding class-action lawsuits.

I dealt with this issue on my '22 and went through 3 batteries. I traded it for what I paid after taking delivery of a '24 Lariat Hybrid. I assumed they had addressed the battery saver issue but alas my assumptions were wrong. This one is actually worse. Several weeks at the dealership and no one has an answer as you're well aware. It is frustrating but it really amounts to a nuisance being unable to use the remote features. But it's still a feature that Ford installed and therefore should work as intended. With that said, it would not have deterred me from ordering my Lariat even had I known. All of the extra features in the Lariat has made it worth it. I say keep your order and deal with the potential issue until such time that they actually develop a software fix. If not, it seems that a quality AGM battery may be the answer. I think you'll love everything else about the truck. OR, get a Tundra instead and deal with a recall that involves an engine replacement.

I have a 24 and yes, it has the 12v issue, but it has always started the truck. I have a 15 minute commute on surface roads, so my truck does not get driven long. I have put it on a charger a few times but honestly it only helps for a day or so and its right back to being barely adequate.

Other than not being able to use the Ford app it has not affected my use or enjoyment of the truck so I can't understand why you would sell and hold a grudge against Ford?

If Ford does not fix the issue as a recall (or customer satisfaction program) and if it gets to the point of needing a new battery where the only option from Ford is a new flooded cell battery I will politely pass and put in my own AGM and move on.
