Well I have made some progress on my custom camper build. I was originally going to use a bed rack as the main frame, but I did not like the angle of my rack. So, I decided to just go with wood.

Here is an update on my progress.

I'd call it ingenious!

Looking forward to seeing your completed build.

Nice build - I'd say it qualifies as a bump or slide-out.

What are you planning on using for the skin?

I've watched a couple of your other builds, and have been watching this one. Still trying to decide on a camp setup for my coming hybrid.

I am leaning towards plastic panels. Foam boards on inside.
If you're not familiar with "foamies" - trailers made of mostly foam - check them out. There's some good resources on how to add lightweight skin directly over the foam that's paintable and waterproofed.

Project looks great!

Thanks. Yes. I have seen those. I am also trying to keep the costs down. So I will probably choose the options that is cheaper. Haha

Perfect! Sounds like a great strategy that should work really well with your audience. Looking forward to it. ....especially if you can do it cheaper than a foamy!

I was sketching some ideas for a camper build and was thinking of an extension like that only the full width/section so that when it was extended, you would have like a 6 ft length that you could lay down in back.

I may run down that trail, using linear slides, not terribly thrilled with the Kobalt Sport Bins because they're hard to get over the keeper rail I used in the flexbed slot. Since my beautiful bride trashed the camper roof, it's back to the drawing board for repairs there. Having the A.R.E. Cap the rear window doesn't cover the tail gate, I'm thinking that an extension upwards using the roof as a base a Thule style rack could give you a sleeping platform using the cab roof too.
OBTW I am an OLD FART, over 70, I bought the Maverick because it's an inexpensive truck not a cheap vehicle, good value had by all.
My first Chevrolet C10 pickup truck had a steel dashboard, steel door panels, bench seat and 3 on the tree, it was a real truck that you could open both doors and hose it out, the bed was oak wood that could be replaced when worn out.

That is what I would want but in a foamy version, waiting to see OPs MPG loss before deciding to also go wide like the prior post link. Have a simpler version of the OPs idea, After seeing his idea. Just need foot space in my idea, no moving walls etc. got idea from this video, a foot hopper. Skip to 37min mark to see the foot hopper in action. This camp site looks so typical where my family would go camping as a kid growing up in Europe. Hard to find pine trees in south Texas, but there are pine trees in my avatar pic.
