The other day I was taking a couple of bicycles with tail gate down. As I backed out of my driveway it automatically stopped with a warning apply brakes. It did this every couple of feet until i was fully backed out and ready to go forward. It surprised the heck out of me the first time. I have no idea what enabled this. Is there a switch I accidentally pulled?

Maybe it thought it was detecting something behind the truck? I'm guessing you have all the high-tech driving assist options.

Hmmm - interesting safety feature/annoyance if it decides because you can't get a rear camera view, it must brake frequently because it thinks you are going to fast.

Go out to an unused parking lot.
Tailgait down.
Reverse very slow, like there might be things going on you are watching, pressing on brake just letting up a bit to creep.

Then compare to foot off brake completely like you are confident nothing is back there.

Every week I back up from a shed to a building some 75 yards away with my tailgate down.
A tone goes off but nothing else.
I have all my 2024 Lariats safety features on.
Including back up assistance.
Never a problem.

Mine does this to me all the time when backing out of my garage in one area, the driveway goes uphill at an angle, and a retaining wall nearby immediately to one side. I found that as long as you don't let your foot all the way off the brake until you are done backing up while it's complaining, it seems to avert the problem where if you want to slow down while that thing is complaining/warning and you tap the brake at all, the reverse brake assist if your truck has it absolutely SLAMS on the brakes. This might be only a 2025 Lariat feature.

I was backing out of my driveway and yes it is at an angle. My avatar photo shows my driveway.

I'm speculating. But mine did the same thing the other day (I forgot what triggered it).

It startled me a bit but I don't mind. I'd rather have the occasional false positive if it prevents me from backing into something that I'm really about to hit

Agree I was in a tight parking lot the other day and it did for the first time and I was startled as well. I was looking in the mirror and camera and knew I still had cushion.

How can it see them when they are in the back of the bed and tailgate is down?
X-Ray vision, just like Superman! Hee hee. Howdy neighbor, Fruitland guy here. We should get a local club together for some weekend drives, lunch, whatever.

The reverse emergency braking can be disabled in your vehicle settings.

They're crafty that way. They can tell that the bicycles are about to make a break for it!

Tried in 24MY XLT.

No auto-braking when going faster with no foot on brake - when I gently pressed brake it was gentle.
So bad theory for pre-25MY at least.

Do you know if backing down a boat ramp will be affected by the auto braking?
