I've done some searching on the forum and don't find quite what's happening. If I hit the brakes firmly/hard when coming to a quick stop, the brakes start to shake or chatter, or shudder, shaking the entire truck. Almost like the antiskid is going on hard then off rapidly. It really does shake the entire cab to the point I have to let up a bit, afraid the front axles are going to rip out from under it. Happen to anyone else? I might add that when the truck is cold, and I apply braking coming to a stop, it "super grabs" the brakes in the last five feet. Like a constant stop rate until the last five feet. Really strange.

Thanks,
Dan

Warped rotors most likely, I agree.

It sounds like you drive fairly hard. If you drive aggressively on some backroads with a lot of hard braking and then come to a stop and hold the brakes it will transfer all the heat in your brake pads to that one spot on your rotor. This can cause warping to varying degrees. Do this multiple times and you will have problems.

Are You sure Your brake Rotors aren't warped?
Can also be bad caliber piston that's hung up but mainly suspect warped rotor like others suggest.

If you are in the 3/36 warranty definitely have dealer check it out. I had to have my rotors turned under warranty once after driving through a low water crossing with about a foot of water on a hot summer day. (Had been braking heavily in stop and go for 30-40 minutes just prior. Warped rotors some, not too much to straighten).

No, not sure, don't know. Only 9k miles on it, might have to have them

Old guy here, don't drive or brake hard, but have had to because of others, if you know what I mean. On maybe 5 occasions, only on hard braking, felt like the front was going to shudder itself out from under. The other "hard brake grabbing" only happens when cold and within the last 5 to 10 feet of stopping, doing 5 to 10 mph.

Mine did that (grabbing at the end) and i took a look at the rotors and saw some light rust, probably from driving gently and trying to get maximum regen. Try using the brakes harder sometimes to get rid of the rust.

Just another possible option: Are you familiar with the feel of the ABS system activating?

Come on guys....READ!!! The other posts in this Forum that is. It's NOT the rotors. It's the ABS system working as designed. If you are hitting an imperfection in the road braking a bit too hard...you're going to feel it "studder" I can recreate it if I turn into my neighborhood just right coming in a bit too hot on the downhill turn. Kind of feels weird...like something is wrong with the truck/brakes.......BUT....it is NOT warped rotors on a new Maverick.......:rolleyes::rolleyes:

How do You know or we know it's not warped brake rotors if we aren't the ones driving it? It's not brand new it has 9,000 miles on it. And wouldn't the ABS light be coming on if it was the ABS kicking in?

I didn’t say the light didn’t come on, but anyway ….I’d be the first to lay down a huge stack of money against you saying it’s not a “warped” rotor. 😂😂😂

I've had warped rotors and ABS working on slippery roads, there's no comparison in the way they feel to me while breaking.

Warped brake rotors shake at all speeds, not just when coming to a stop.

I guess it's settled. The most emphatic post wins!
