Mine doesn’t release if you apply throttle pressure. I always have to manually release it.
If you press the go pedal, it's supposed to automatically release on its own.

I'm speaking from a position of having a similar parking brake on an escape, since my Maverick is only on order. Anyway, there is an automatic hill holding mode that you should be able to enable and disable. It uses the parking brake to prevent you from rolling backwards if stopped on a hill.

It could be inadvertently turned on, or it could be malfunctioning.

I'm kind of old school - I miss the fully mechanical parking brake.
