Hey everyone, just looking for everyone's $0.02 on this topic. This is my first truck and I am unsure if this is a normal thing or something more unique to the Maverick.

My previous vehicle I owned for 13+years was a 2009 Ford Escape 3.0L that I put on over 210k miles with. In regards to the size differences they are actually fairly similar +/- a few inches here and there. Height, width... all similar, but the Maverick 1ft longer (but to me not major difference). The main difference is the Maverick weighs significantly more.

Here's where my question comes in. Is it just me, or on the highway/highway speeds, does the Maverick seem to get "blown" around by strong winds, or passing 18wheelers etc. I feel that with my Escape which has a bigger side profile due to the SUV shape, would have more surface area for cross winds and such to blow it around, but I notice it a lot in the Maverick, more than I ever remember experiencing in the Escape. My driving style has not changed, the roads I take, etc. Nothing has changed yet I feel like the Maverick kind of gets pushed around a lot more than my old Escape.

So that's where I am wondering if maybe somehow its just me noticing each stronger wind pushing me from side to side, or if this is common with driving a truck.

Thanks all for your input / $0.02

Common in a light vehicle with lighter rear end. Holds the road better than I expected but you got to pay attention in certain conditions.

ACC holds it steady for me on longer treks.

Yes, it was pretty bad. I added a bed cover and it was an immediate improvement. Not sure if it helped or its just my mind playing tricks on me lol.

The Escape is more aerodynamic, so I could see the extra air disruption affecting Maverick more.

But you might also just be settling in to a new vehicle- we notice all kinds of new stuff till we get used to it...

First thing I would check tire pressure. Also make sure all tires are the same psi and within the tire manufacturers specs. I have read on this site that many tires where found over inflated.

I've put about 4 miles on two different Mavericks and never noticed any problems.

Honestly it feels rather planted for me compared to my wife's Odyssey.

Obviously the thing is a brick compared to the Model 3 I traded in but I would never compare such....

The only thing that bothered me was the hood flutter. It still exists a small amount after the "fix".

Drove the new 2024 hybrid home in the really crappy Denver weather today and it drove just like a small truck should. It handled the slushy conditions better than I was expecting.

Isn't Maverick much longer than an Escape? Sounds like Maverick's lack of aerodynamics as mentioned. I rented a sedan and it was noticeable how it stayed under the wind.

I also don't like moonroofs on a windy highway, I prefer solid roofs. I got the Maverick so I didn't have to use a huge roof box which gets blown around. I drive some extremely windy routes. It's worked well for that vs. a SUV with a top box. Either way, the wind is a worthy rival.

Hood yes, truck no!

But seriously its probably ride height. The higher it is the more air gets under it. More air under, lighter on the road, longer body, extra succeptible to crosswind. Its a combination of things. Not a problem if you are holding the wheel though. i would never really trust self driving systems. Wind is way too unpredictable.

Thanks for the replies so far everyone. I have a hard tri fold Ford OEM cover, and all PSI at 38 and again I still feel the Mav and 09 Escape are fairly similar in size and should behave similar. Even tho the Mav is heavier I feel should take more to move it around than the Escape.

Here is a fun link for those who want to compare vehicles... and if I copy/pasted correct should show the escape/maverick comparison. You can also swap what vehicle is in front and where to compare them (front bumper, rear, etc) along with front view, side, rear views.
https://www.carsized.com/en/cars/co...-maverick-2021-4-door-pickup/?&units=imperial

I am hoping that I am just noticing it because it is new to me and I only have 5k miles on it still, but a few of you mentioned you have similar experiences so far with the wind, so that makes me feel less like a noob :).

And note: its never been like "omg its going to blow me into ditch" all over the road issue...more like a " i gotta pay attention" on really windy days so i dont ride the lines and scare other drivers.
