I need to get a bike rack for my Maverick. I need it to hold 2 ebikes about 75 pounds each with 4 inch tires.
i tried a really cool one with ramps today and the problem I ran into is the tailgate hits the rack when it folds down. Can’t use it. Need to find one that has a low enough clearance so I can open the tailgate without hitting it.
anyone know of one that fits the Maverick?
appreciate any help!

What’s your budget? Safe to assume you want a hitch mounted rack. I use a 1UP Super Duty and you can fold the rack down and open the tailgate without them touching.

They make swing outs for hitches that move the rack to the side to gain access to the trunk/tail gate. I actually have one on order for my truck.

Thank you I’ll check it out. I’m thinking 4 to 5 hundred range.

The tongue weight limit is 400 lbs. I use a straight 10" hitch extender which brings the bikes back far enough to open the tailgate. This drops the hitch capacity to 200 lbs. If you can get a < 50 lb bike rack such as the 1UP mentioned (check the weight), you'll be just within spec. The swing out extenders are ideal, but they also limit the accessory to 200 lbs and are way more expensive than a simple extender. With bikes that heavy look at a shorter extender like 6-8" or you may want to just live with it and get a better rack with no extender or swing out.

Check out the Ride88. It's not a hitch-based rack but you may like it. I found and installed a used one, used it a couple of times so far and like it.

I have the 1UP Heavy Duty 2 bike rack and it doesn’t quite clear the tailgate, although maybe extending it out more will address it. Their racks are worth the money, but 2x your budget. Their racks require extra wide arms for really wide tires like on some e-bikes, and that’s more$$. I be am not inconvenienced by the tailgate being down 90% though.
good luck with your search!

With the 1UP HD, OP's requirements will be met. Adding an extender to clear the tailgate will put it overweight at about 217 tongue.

If the bike weight can be reduced and extender could be used. Or just get some real bikes. eBikes are a true head-scratcher.

I own two RAD eBikes haul them on a Thule Carrier
Does it clear your tailgate? The rack I tried, the tailgate won't come down without hitting the bike rack.

That part should work! Thank you for posting that. I may need to get that. I don't know the model of the rack I tried on it, it was a nice rack with a ramp. If I had one of those I believe it would fit. Right now, if I can't find a rack that just sits a little lower, I will order that piece. I want to look around at my options. It sounds like the 1UP is a sure bet although a little more costly. The nice thing about the 1UP is that it is US made and that is a great thing.
