I am interested in a bicycle rack like the 1up or Kuat that does not impede putting the tailgate down, and also does not obscure the camera..

This thread reminded me to do work. I took my single OneUp rack slightly apart to flip the hitch part. With that I can fully open the tail gate with the rack in the completely rolled away position and the leaves open. At least I can now sit and change shoes or chug beer! 🍻

What model 1up is this? Also how is everything working with hitch part flipped? Any issues?

I am considering one of these but I think one could possible diy a rack in bed that could possibly accommodate SIX RadExpand5 electric bikes (up to 45 mile assisted range) and plug charger into bed power point! They are $1,499 each!

Works great! This is the unit I bought. I usually modify everything to suit so I went with "affordable". You can ADD more bike trays if you want. If money allows; you can add this to the mix: RackAttach. They have all kinds of handy things in their product catalog. 🍻

New custom side plates let the rack sit under the tailgate completely:

Doesn’t fold, but I don’t care. It’s so much more out of the way and really doesn’t seem even close to being any kind of a dragging hazard.

I just installed some 1up van trays for use in the bed.

I took two 1UP USA van trays, a pair of toggle clamps to latch to the stock D-ring tiedowns, and built a wood frame for bike trays. Oriented opposite of their hitch rack. it wedges the front wheel down against the rear of the cab/front of the bed. I'll run a bungee or strap through the rear wheels.

Originally tried using some rivet nuts, but the location I drilled near the cab had a bracket nearby that prevented install of rivet nut. The ribs on the bottom of the bed are also narrower than the base of the bike tray so it didn't support it well from side-to-side wobble.

I like this! Nice work. I like the clamps (great solution). Could only imagine using some Extruded Alloy T-Track for that over the top engineered look lol
fwiw- I had a Fab buddy of mine make me a bed rack that only held by the tire. It worked amazing. I drive in the desert and would rally around pretty hard. No bouncing around, never damaged a bike. I would use a pedal strap around the tire for just in case; never a fail. That rack has been in 3 trucks and I use a long version of it in my bike shop. (only picture I can find is with a bob tool trailer )

Can anybody weigh in on the SuperDuty 1UP rack being in the down position? Can the tailgate come all the way down? I see the Equip-D can but it's close and need to be cautious so you don't dent the tailgate. Looks like the SuperDuty is 0.6" higher in the down position than the Equip-D, so I'm guessing it's gonna be a no. 😕
definite no. I’ve had the 1up from my previous rig. Even in the down position, the tailgate does not clear. I have the tailgate resting on a foam pad.

Thanks for the pics. Not a huge dealbreaker honestly. I'd probably do the same thing with the foam pad if I decide to get the 1Up.
