I don't know which Kuat rack you have but you may be able to get one of the Rack Add-Ons to add capacity without having to buy a whole new rack. I've considered getting one for my NV for when I ride with friends.

I also like the idea mentioned above of using a raised bed rack to expand bike capacity. Could haul a couple of bikes on that, add a gear basket for extra stuff and then still use the hitch bike rack.

Consider using a trailer. A U-Haul 4x7 trailer is only $15 per day, has ample room for 4 bikes, and leaves the bed available for all the other stuff 4 riders will be needing.
probably not necessary.

with a hitch rack, I've hauled 4 bikes and then fit everyone's riding gear under the tonneau cover easily. I do recommend some kind of extension and/or hitch drop so that you can open the tailgate without contacting the hitch rack when it's not hauling bikes and folded down. I use a kuat hi/lo pro.

I vastly prefer a tailgate pad for convenience and you'll get better mpg with it than bikes on a hitch rack. however with a tailgate pad, the ability to stow all the riding gear and especially luggage if it's an overnight / multi-day trip is in question.

I bought a harbor freight hitch extender that works perfectly.

I kinda DIY'd a small trailer to haul bikes. I've towed this one several thousand miles behind the Harley. On the bike I can hardly tell it's back there.

I'm sure a Maverick would have no problem at all

Much more than kinda DIY'd, I say it's a work of art!
