I have a F350 4-door w/8 foot bed.Hmm I guess I am the exception that proves the rule. I adore my 2dr RAM 1500 with an 8' bed. This is my hauling truck. Try putting 3 yards of mulch (or anything else) in a short bed truck. For dump runs, dirt and mulch hauling, I will take a Standard cab 8' bed every time. In fact I did not see any use for a short bed 4 door truck.
That is until I got my mav. I have a cap on mine to haul my labradors around. With the 4 doors I can haul stuff or people when I have the dogs with us. It is also great to haul baked goods as you do not have to bend and strain to get things out. I can park this little guy anywhere. No more taking up 3 or more parking spaces. It is a great truck.
I still dont see a use for a big 4 door truck with a short bed. To me that is just someone compensating for something.
It helps towing our 14,000+lb. trailer.
I drive it occasionally without the trailer. When I can pry it away from my nephew who uses it a lot. For me the 350 is not a fun all around truck to drive.
Even when I owned 2DR extended cab Rangers. I wanted the 4-dr Rangers from Mexico. Prior to the internet most folks in the US didn't realize that a four-door Ranger even existed.
What a lot of folks tend to forget OR leave out when they're talking about a small two-door, standard cab, pickup truck such as the Slate.
Is the fact that, if you're a tall driver, you may not be able to recline the seat back at all.
Same as it was in the Ford Ranger. Talk about a cramped cab.
It sucked!!
