My grandkids are in booster seats and it is super easy. However when one was still in a car seat it was a pain. The anchor points for the car seat straps are pretty deep. I had to get a longer strap for the graco car seat we had so it could clip in easier. After that it was a snap.
A tether-extender is a great way to make things easier as well!

I thought of that, but couldn't find a piece that I was happy with (strong/secure enough).

Have a good one,

Andy

I'm not trying to make any kind of point. I'm just curious to poll the community and see how many have had people (not stuff) in the back seat. The question isn't whether you want a four door, four seat truck. For instance, I put stuff back there all the time. The question is very specific. Have you driven with people back there.
Once. On the passenger side; there is no room for legs behind me when I'm driving!😉

A problem with back seat showed up the other night. When my passengers got in to the back seat during daytime they had no problem finding and attaching the seat belts. When we returned it was dark and neither of the two passengers could locate and/or attach their seat belts without a flashlight.

Short emergency trips only. My family complains the back is too vertical. For a planned trip of over 10 minutes we use my wife's Volkswagen.

If an extended cab with a 6' bed was an option I probably would have bought it.

It’s a family truck for us. My two boys, both under 9 years old ride back there all the time. They fit fine of course. The challenge comes if you have other items crammed in the backseat that aren’t appropriate for the bed. But the 2023 Explorer is the main family cruiser.

Yes, regularly.

Son, wife, grandson when they visit. Friends, often enough.

Good day

We don't have someone in the back seats every day or week, but we do use it quite often for when we are watching our grand daughter! And when we have her over, we use it quite often to go do fun stuff. It works great for us in its size, as the car seat fits in nicely. It is a trick getting the behind the seat seat tether off, but I know the trick, so not a bother anymore.

We also use it when our children and other family members fly in for holidays or what have you...again, perfect size and the hard Ford bed cover works great for keeping the suitcases out of the weather.

I would not call the rear seats spacious, but for what we use our truck for they are exactly what we had in mind. Not too big, not too small but just right for our use case.

Have a good one,

Andy

When I first got my Maverick, 4 years ago next month, I pulled the rear headrests, for better visibility.
Had to remember to replace them whenever double dating. Sometimes I forgot,
leaving myself wide open to a suit, should an accident occur.
So, now that I’m accustomed to the truck, I put them back in, and barely notice them.

Yes, all the time! We have 4 kids, so I'm usually shuttling a couple of them around. We have a Chrysler Pacifica for full-family trips, but with two kids in high school, that is more and more rare. It's usually me and a couple kids in there.

This is a copy and paste from another reply earlier.

"Good morning!

Yes, it definitely is a bit of a trick getting the seats out. We used to just keep the seat installed as well till I thought about it and tried to following. It may take 2 people, and my wife and I get along so getting help is no problem when needed, usually! 😉

If the seat is installed properly, it is hard to get that rear tether loosened so that the seat can be removed.
-Once I loosen and release the seat bottom-back belt hooks, I move the passenger seat forward.
-I then (pivot) lift the baby seat all the way up to the truck ceiling.

-You should be able to reach the seat back release strap and move it forward enough to reach behind and unhook the tether.

I hope this helps you out and you can more easily enjoy having your grandson in your truck with you, whenever you want!

Andy"

As well, @grandpa_disney uses a tether extender to make it easier.

Yes, adult daughters have traveled with myself & wife. However on longer trips we prefer our 2017 GMC Terrain which has substantially more room in the back seat and the seat back reclines.

We have 3 children who still live at home.
Two are in college.
One is graduated and has a full time job.
Two have their own cars.

So we have plenty of options, but once in a while more than 2 of us want to go somewhere in my car and it really convenient.

It is also nice to haul stuff in the cab. I brought my son home from college for Winter break on Friday and all of his stuff fit in the back so we didn’t have to tie anything down in the bed or worry about rain or theft.

The four doors and back seat are just one more reason why this truck is so amazingly practical.
I could see the benefit of swapping the back seat for more bed length, but I’m glad I didn’t have to make that decision.
