Starters & batteries have a finite number of cycles before they fail, stop/start gets them to that finite number a lot sooner.
Just from an economics view, how much money in fuel do you save?
I would bet its a lot less than the cost of a battery ,starter or the electric fluid pump on the transmission
Press the override button. Problem solved. By the way in practical terms we MIGHT be seeing SLIGHTLY more starter replacements but I can't even say that's for certain. But we're not replacing batteries any more frequently than before. But again, if a person wants their beefed up battery and starter to last an extra long time, just press the override button. And the starter and battery that are designed to last a normal amount of time with stop-start will last an extra long time since you not using the feature. Press the button. 1/2 second of time😅

But then what would we expend all that fake outrage on if not to endlessly complain about something that is easily remedied?
Good point. I guess it reveals just how good our life is when we have so few worries that we can get outraged about things of so little consequence that can be solved in 1/2 second of time😂

When was the last time you replaced a starter on a vehicle under 100k miles or 10 years? The last starter I replaced was on a 92 Ranger in 2007!
It seems as if we love to get worked up over theoretical problems that COULD happen and continue to get worked up over them even when time proves our fears to be unfounded. 😂

It seems to me that the driving conditions where a vehicle's efficiency actually benefits from A.S.S. in a ICE only powered vehicle would be considerably better in a hybrid configuration.

A.S.S. does nothing for momentary stops, which is likely why so many people just find it annoying rather than beneficial. What is gained by stopping the engine in a parking lot, just so you can immediately back up, or stopping at a stop sign and then going?
In that case isn't a feature, it doesn't improve mileage, it's just annoying.
If there were an engine stop delay, that might make it more palatable.

Instead of stopping and starting the engine a hundred times to go a mile in heavy traffic, a hybrid may not start an engine at all.
For those who typically drive in those conditions in a Maverick, the hybrid is a lot better choice.
A lot of people are the same who'd never buy a hybrid for any number of reasons. 😅

I didn’t know it also put extra strain on motor mounts.
I saw no mention of the effects of depriving a high speed Turbo of oil pressure.

I wonder why they even gave us a disable button if that’s true.

I agree, just push the button, or purchase the gizmo that will disable it. I have a hybrid and I know that's a different beast, so am ok with how it functions and why. My only beef is that for those with ICE only, the default from the factory should be ASS is off unless one wants to have it functional at startup. Think of DRL's. When one disables that function, you don't need to continuously turn it off every time you start the car. My guess is that ASS on at startup is (or was) a requirement of the Fed's? Should be a simple software change to make the default "off". Not being mean here, but I also recall how the software engineers performance on our little trucks seems to be, well, crappy to say the least.

My Maverick defaults to auto headlights (including DRLs) every time I start it.

Yep. But the DRLs can be turned off by the driver in the truck's menu, and they will stay off. Disabling the default to auto headlights takes Forscan.

Perhaps true, but the considerable improvement in mpgs might change that.
Hybrids excel in city driving.

About a year ago I replaced the original starter on my 2002 Explorer at 160,000 miles.

I got lucky when it went out Advance Auto Parts was closing all of their stores in my area and I picked up a reman for $5.

I've never seen this on ANY vehicle. Besides, starters are part of the 3/36; bumper to bumper warranty. There's no way they'd have the starter replaced DURING the warranty. I suspect that there may have been an actual problem with the starter or battery. I'm a technician at a Ford dealership. We also had close ties with a Chrysler dealership. Starters are NOT a maintenance item. We replace some starters (always did). But the implementation of start -stop technology has NOT led to a huge increase in starter failure. Perhaps a SLIGHT increase if any. And if a person hates that feature, just press the override button. It takes 1/2 second. It's not the big deal people are making it out to be. I'm not a fan of it. But it's not something to stress over.
I asked me friend again I was wrong on mileage it was just over 40k According to Gemini AI Jeep on some models does have this warning because of wearing of start system from start stop. It makes sense as the starter is just flat out used way way more.

My bet YOU dont see a increase in starter repairs as most dealers wont as they go to cheaper places to get them replaced. At the dealer when I worked it was mostly warranty repairs. My bet these starters fail after the initial warranty is over.

From reading the thread, it seems as though the folks that don't mind it being there and operating as it should are making just as big of a fuss about not understanding why the other half wants it gone.

I hate it. I bought a 100 $ gadget to turn my edge into a car and ditch the golf cart tech.

I came across this article.
Hopefully it will answer some questions.

I purchased and installed Auto Stop Start Eliminators for and in both of our cars. Both are Ford Ecoboost engines and when the engine was stopped after an extended 75 mph run, I got very concerned about oil sitting on those hot turbo bearings. I shut it off immediately and once back home got the components ordered right off. I have not noticed any change in average fuel mileage since installing in December.
