My post was not a reply to you. I'm not sure how you got that idea. I was replying to a comment regarding using the parking brake. Nothing to do with your post.

There's a bit of misunderstanding here. I realize your original post was about using the different modes, but you also mentioned disengaging the automatic parking brake, which was something I commented on. (I was more comfortable disengaging by hand). Then someone replied to me explaining how the parking brake works. Something I'm acutely aware of. I thanked them, then reiterated my preference for using the lever to disengage the brake. They shot back that I was being defensive and accused me of having a problem with them. Nothing could be further from the truth. So, while your post was targeted to mode selection, it got side-tracked to the brake release. That's probably why you read my post about offending. I have absolutely no beef with you.

Why Ford... why?
Let your customers pick a default startup mode!
Is there something we're not seeing, making this a bad idea, or rocket surgery to do?

I get this too. Usually it's a wrasslin match between the seat belt reminder and this. Maybe I need to refine my seatbelt/start order. Always seems to be about 3 seconds between the two.

Biggest problem with it though is it defaults to no- so it's the same number of button presses as shifting from normal mode. It's pretty annoying - I wish there was a way to request feature updates.

Pre Flight'ing My 2024 Eco Lariat :

Step one, Start Mav From Key Fob In the morning while looking at my Iphone remembering how much of a PIA the Ford Pass app start ups were In my 2021 Bronco Sport.

Step Two, walking up to Maverick I pull my keys out of my pocket, Then put them ~baacck~ in my pocket and touch the door handle on the three lines, It Unlocks.

Step three, Jump in the saddle, hit the brake pedal and the Start button, vroom.

Step four, be quick and put on your seat belt or God forbid you'll put it in gear and get that end of the world doomsday bell before you even get to finish picking your nose.

Aw your not done yet unless you can Ignore the center dash display for a full minute, You got buttons to hit.

Step five, Enjoy a little 'Ecoboost' power, you don't need sport mode, this ain't no Hybrid and lucky for you, You can afford the gas, 25 to 30 mph is plenty good.

Step six, You can smile a little because yours came with a Turbo AND an AGM battery ! Oh yeah,

I dearly miss, Jumping in, starting up and putting it in gear, then, go, Just go !

The Maverick should have one more drive profile, called, 'Old Fogey'
The term "old fogey" describes someone who clings to traditional ways and resists modern trends or progress.

I think ideally to have the default setting to remember and retain the last mode used when shut off would be a popular solution. Maybe somebody will come up with a harness for that like the Auto Stop-Start Eliminator (or a FORScan setting).
I think it should be something programmable in my key settings. It would be simple. Then it would do whatever the key is set to.

My reminder is "WTF, I'm doing everything right and it won't go to electric only mode" I'm usually in Eco about a mile down the road! I'd love a software solution.

The default has to be whatever the EPA mileage tests were done under. That number has to be what you get from the vehicle in whatever mode it starts up in. Some cars do start up in ECO for the extra rating but Ford leaves you a little more room to get more if you want it. And I'm guessing ECO might not be the best if you have a load in the bed anyway.

I stay in normal for the sake of my engine.
My motor seems to work less in normal mode in my Appalachian mountains.
What with all the hills. My ears pop/equalize once or twice each time I go to town.
Eco does make a minuscule difference when I’m in town. We’ve got eight stop lights and one roundabout.

When I’m climbing my steep gravel roads up to my Cabin I’m in slippery mode. It vectored equal power to all four wheels. That and hitting the ā€˜Low’ button center of the gear shifter helps keep the engine into the turbo just a little at 8 to 10 mph.
Again, less strain on the engine.
