WHY? Idiots!
Because it's an off-road package, and I assume they wanted to keep the total number of modes to 5. It is pretty annoying to have to click through 7 modes to get to the one you want.

Eco mode changes the shift points in the transmission to increase regnerative breaking when lifting off the accelerator. You can feel it if you lift your right foot and try coasting-- there's a sensation that the trans downshifted like you're using engine breaking

Count AC use in there too - for at least the EB's.
Not sure if it does the same for hybrids.

Eco (If Equipped)

Ford Maverick Eco mode question. {filename}
This mode decreases accelerator pedal responsiveness to soften driver inputs and encourage efficient driving. Depending on your vehicle’s options, adaptive cruise control is slower to return to the set speed and auto start-stop engages more often. The system decreases air conditioning output to conserve energy when set to auto mode. Use this mode for fuel efficient driving which allows for an extended vehicle range.

Well, you're not missing anything. You can do the same thing eco mode does by just not pushing the throttle so hard. I added eco and sport modes to my FX4 with FORScan to try them out, but ended up removing eco because it's worthless to me. It was just another mode to click through to get to the ones I use. Sport is fun but I rarely use it.
Good to know, thanks

I was hoping to get a little more than 40 mpg on my EB by using Eco mode. Oh well, I guess I will have to settle for high 30's

It's weird, the 2024 Ford Maverick Lariat Tremor doesn't have Eco and Sport Mode
But the 2023 Ford Bronco Sport Badlands does...
I've never used Eco in my BS, I always drive it in Sport 'cause life's short 🙃

Only thing it does with my Eco Is make it run like it needs a tune up.
Does absolutely nothing for my mileage.
Just numbs, dumb’s down my throttle.
Takes an inch of throttle movement to do what a half inch did in regular mode.
I can do Eco with my foot.
As for moving the shift points pffft. It almost lugs my motor at lower speeds. I’m not doing that to my motor.

Through extensive scientific testing I have determined Eco on an Ecoboost sucks.
Ranking as less useless than the stop/start but not as annoying because you are not forced to deal with it like stop start.

All my previous trucks, Fords and Taco’s
Never had any annoying useless crap like the two mentioned above.

Yeah, I did too, until I realized after using them that those are the two of least useful modes for me. Modes ranked most to least used by me:

  1. Normal
  2. Tow/haul
  3. Mud/ruts
  4. Sand
  5. Sport (rarely used)
  6. Slippery (never used)
  7. Eco (never used)
Tow\haul is excellent for hill country and warming up quicker after winter cold starts. Mud/ruts is my default off-road mode and Sand is very good on deep sand and gravel. If I didn't have other sportier cars with manual transmissions, I would have fun with Sport more often.
