Two local Ford dealers I have recently asked about a 2023 Maverick both want a deposit. One wants $1,000 and the other $500. They both mentioned the new rule that Ford has imposed on them about the person purchasing the vehicle must match the name on the order.

Are others here seeing the same thing? If you plan to order when they open up next month, and if you have talked to a local dealer, are they requiring a deposit?

Yes, my dealer requires $500 and gave the same reason. When we picked up my son's Mach-E last month he indicated that Ford was cracking down on dealers and the name-match requirements were getting more stringent. They don't want to lose allocation which is the penalty. He said it is refundable though. I have heard other dealers are making the deposit non-refundable.

It was pretty much dealers' choice from the get-go. Ford didn't have the requirement, but dealers made their own rules.
I had to put $500 down (refundable) a year ago when I ordered mine.

Must be nice to get a Maverick under MSRP! I have two more dealers near me, I will check if they require also deposits.

The one that wants $1,000 said it is non-refundable. The $500 one said if I don't buy it, I can get the $500 back when they sell it.

I'm not worried about changing my mind. I'm worried about other things like the truck arriving with substantial shipping damage. Or the dealer charging higher fees than stated or add ons that I did not agree to. If they have my deposit, I would have very little leverage.

My dealer required a $1000 deposit (refundable) and drivers license scan for the COVP to get in queue for MY23 order.

I went to two dealerships last week. Dealer 1 asked for a $500 non-refundable deposit, and that is a non-starter for us. Dealer 2, first sales rep said $500 refundable but the second sales rep said he won’t require a deposit just for the Maverick.

I will have to make visits to more local dealerships this week to be sure one of them still don’t require a deposit. But I’m incline to do business with dealer 2 because of the lower sales tax in the city they’re located in than the closest dealers near where I live.

Putting down a deposit can be to your advantage, depending on local laws you may not have to pay taxes on the deposit part of the purchase price.

I see that as a good thing for the rest of us. more trucks will be built for the people that actually want to buy them.

No deposit for me. Willowbrook Ford in Illinois.
