Are Mavericks Lemons?

A big part of the poor reputation is this site. People come in here and complain about the truck all the time and that’s what we are seeing. All vehicle brands have their issues. When a company makes thousands of vehicles, some will have issues. This truck still keeps getting good reviews from reputable sites. One of the best things about Ford is that they fix their issues. One the reasons I will never buy a Mazda. They have the worst customer service I’ve ever seen. I won’t buy a Chevy anymore either. The last one I had was literally falling apart.

I had a Mazda CX5 and never needed customer service. That’s not a bad thing.

I admire the technical know how of many in this forum but yeah sometimes I just scratch my head and say to myself WTH are you doing and why?

I agree, I used to be more willing to make mods to things I bought, but at 60 I think I will keep it stock at least until I but the first scratches on it then I think I might add driving lights some racks and call it complete. I definitely will not be modifying height of the suspension or playing with the code until it well out of warrantee. Not to say I don't like to see what others have done, but to each their own...!

I got a 2024 XLT and it is a very good truck for what I need and the price was decent. There are a lot of features that are just so nice coming from a 2005 truck that I owned and traded in. As for being a lemon there is a lemon law in Texas and that was mentioned at signing so that is covered I guess.

Also I did get the extra ford warranty so I am covered there. Recalls for software updates as mentioned before in some posts it seems you cannot get a car/truck that is old school anymore and will just be a fact of life. I can afford a hour or two now and then to get a fix and as long as everything else goes smoothly I am fine.

So overall I am a happy camper so far and really like my truck and features. As far as being made in Mexico that is a non issue for me as many cars/trucks are made there now.

You can look things up, but I think your warranty is longer than you think. See the attachment on the MY2022 Fords.

I do know that CV joints/axles have ZERO TOLERANCE for any dirt. The boots must be 100% intact (not 99.9999%); the slightest tear or defect in a rubber boot (certainly possible in a high mileage runner like you've got) will cause premature wear. Checking said boots is an important part of maintenance on any car with them.

The recalls are the recalls. I've had a couple but none done yet; I have none of any of the symptoms. I'll wait for the oil change at the dealer to do it. I've had recalls on BMW and VW too.

My wife worked for Ford for over 30 years. We've had Fords, multiple ones each year, and no problems--that's probably over 60 different cars. They've been made all over the place. German Ford, Spanish engine, all made in USA, Canada, etc. etc. The worst problem was a failed battery heater on a 2015 Fusion Energi PEH. Caused the car to be inoperative. Second worse problem was total transmission failure (though the guess was a a shard of metal in the valve body) at 750 miles in a new Bronco Sport, though were able to "limp it" to a dealer.

Don't know when you bought your Maverick but you are putting a LOT of miles on it.. You know that the older a car gets both in age and mileage, the more likely you are going to have problems or need work. It's gets to a point where the car is "nickel and dimeing" you with lots of annoying little issues. Some people who have very high mileage Toyota and Honda cars say they have no problems but when you really look close, they are far from perfect. They just have not disabled the car and people who drive very high mileage cars have a different mindset than someone driving new. They tolerate more!

There are lots of problems here on the forums. Also, people cannot seem to leave there trucks alone. They raise the suspension, they lower the suspension, they add pieces and parts to make a Lariat because they didn't order a Lariat from the start. They add amplifiers and sound systems because they don't like what it came with. They even start playing with all the software that controls everything (all those ForScan posts). It's like nobody here is happy with their initial purchase so they have to change it.

I guess I'm a very rare bird. I don't mess with the car's software. I order the car to the specs I want. I don't have problems. Wonder if there's a correlation? Hahaha

Agree. Ecvt is made at Van Dyke, Michigan I believe. The hybrid specific parts have 8 year warranty. Even if the cv axle is considered "transmission", there appears to be 5 years and 50K beyond the standard b2b warranty. If it's not broken, enjoy it. If it does, just get R done.

I agree with others about being a cheap Ford made in Mexico but it really depends on your operating strategy. It seems to me but I may be wrong that the Hybrids seems to have way more recalls and issues than the gas model. Personally I bought a Maverick because it is truly a small truck and easy to drive with great gas mileage and can tow 4K and 5 people and fits in my garage. My deal is keep it for 80K and then trade for new. It seems like a lot of things start to go at 80K on Fords. The guys who keep them for 150K better buy the extended warranty from Ford or they will be going back to Toyota and Honda. For me I paid cash for mine and will purchase 1 set of tires, 1 set of front brakes and a transmission flush. the regular stuff I do myself oil changes, filters and wiper blades. At $150.00 a hour for mechanics these days I am not interested and seeing how reliable this truck is after 80K. If at 60K (drive train warranty) it has already had many failed parts I will dump it and go to Toyota and hopefully they will have a competitor for this Maverick by then.

Honestly, I think the hybrids have some big issues that Ford needs to work out RIGHT NOW but there are a LOT of these trucks rolling around and not that many complaints coming in.
I saw way, way more problems in the mini cooper forums, a car which sells about 1/5th as many as the Maverick. The percentage of problems was so much higher it's slightly terrifying but people still love those lil junkpiles. Heck, even the Subaru forums had constant problem threads and huge gripe lists and that's a simple, fairly well refined vehicle family without a lot of innovation or new tech to go wrong or iterate through.

The way I approached it pre-purchase was to walk into a busy ford shop and ask the service advisor how many Mavericks they've seen in the last couple years. She said there was one in for hybrid stuff several times, but out of the 30ish they'd sold, that was the only major problem.
Not very scientific but assuming she wasn't lying out her ass it was good enough for me.
I also made a habit of asking every Maverick driver I saw how they liked their truck.
A bit biased but it proved to me that the majority were good and the problems were problems.

The C2 platform is good, the ecoboost 2.0 has been around for a while and aside from the hybrid issues which I think are more manufacturing problems than tech or design problems there isn't anything really innovative in these trucks.

You should seriously consider a Ford PremiumCare warranty for as long as you want to keep it, and as many total miles you want. Get a quote from @Granger Ford . I would NEVER consider going without a Ford warranty, given all the complexity. I had a 2017 C-Max and paid $905 for the 8 year warranty, and when I sold it after 6 years, that warranty was worth the $905 to the buyer who gave me a great price.

I agree completely. I just bought a used 2022 Ecoboost after totaling my first and put a 7 year 85000 mile. ESP on it.

My Mav experience: I placed an order for a hybrid Lariat when the order banks opened in 2022. Meanwhile, in Oct 2022 I purchased a new 2022 EB basic Lariat off the lot as a placehold [no lux pkg].

I drove the EB Lariat 9k trouble free miles. When my hybrid arrived as a 2024 model, I sold the '22 EB for what I paid for it. It did have a rumble in the dash over rough surfaces but that was my only complaint.

My early build 2024 hybrid Lariat has 3500 miles on it. So far, 42-44 mpg and no issues. I have not had any recalls done. If I don't drive it for several days, the battery saver software shuts down interior and exterior lights when the doors are opened.

Based on absolutely no data, I will throw out there that 1. Every new vehicle, even one based on a proven platform, will have bugs. Early adopters should know this. 2. The COVID parts shortage contributed to suppliers providing shoddy parts. Or in some cases, no parts at all which frustrated attempts by FoMoCo to fill Mav orders but enriched dealers who were able to sell scarce Mavs at a premium.

I had a 2006 BMW 530i that was the most troublesome new car I ever owned. Dealer was not any better than the car. As was the case with the 2005 BMW 325i 5 speed it replaced. BMW's just never lived up to the hype.

My [purchased used] low mileage Inferno Red 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser 5 speed, made in Hermisillo MX, is more fun to shift than my BMW was.

My most trouble-free vehicles have been Lexus'.

Couldn't agree more. Toyota is ignoring all their newer cars having engine issues, meanwhile, Ford's recalls over clips in roof racks coming loose. I give it about a 90% chance Ford does something about the CV axles in coming years.

Most of the hybrid issues are software and 12V battery related. Mechanically speaking, the 2.5 hybrid has been around since about 2005 and is one of the most reliable powertrains out there. They just need to perfect the software.
