Why does it seem that Hybrid owners ‘hate’ EcoBoost owners??? It’s certainly not the other way around!!!
The entire point of this thread is whether octane makes a difference ON THE HYBRID!
It absolutely makes a difference on the ecoboost, and every other engine that adjusts timing and/or/ turbo boost based upon available octane. Anyone who questions or doubts this has nothing to contribute to the discussion.
Octane is not energy; it is the ability to resist premature detonation during high compression. The more octane, the higher the compression possible, and thus increased power and/or mileage.
That is *all* octane does.

When timing/boost are not being adjusted, octane has excactly two levels: enough to prevent knocking,, and not enough. (there is a tiny transition zone where incipient knock can be detected with sensors).
But all of this has nothing to do with the hybrid, and this is the hybrid subform!!

What are the popular gas stations down in your area?
“Top Tier” gas has a higher detergent formula than non top tier. Since Pemex is not top tier - do you use aftermarket (Techron) or OEM (Motorcraft) detergent/additives occasionally? I think the recommendations say a $25 bottle every six months or so.Pemex only!![]()

A cleaner ICE, whether EB or Atkinson, will perform better. How much better? Is it worth added cost?
Now if the OP was specifically asking about Hybrids - there would still be plenty of EB folks responding because EB folks lack reading comprehension skills.

Probably because the boost provided by the turbo lessens the affect of high altitude. The reduced atmospheric pressure at high altitude does indeed have a significant effect on a , but less to on a boosted engine naturally aspirated engineWell since I haven't seen anyone who lives in a high altitude area comment...
I run Mid-Grade in my hybrid but here in NM that means 88 octane because our "regular" is 86 octane.
I will say I struggle to understand why the 86 octane won't work because the whole reason for lower octane content at high altitudes is that altitude has an impact on the density of the air the engine is ingesting and 86 is supposed to work like 87 because of that.
