I'm curious if anybody bought the additional 6-year warranty on their Maverick. My truck should be coming in this week (I hope) and I was offered a 6-year additional warranty, I just want to get some feedback. It's expensive but might be worth it in the long run. What's your take on this?
Wes, if you are buying a hybrid it already has an 8 year warranty! You will be paying for something you won't ever use if you sell your truck by then.

Besides, any add on that pays someone an extra commission (often 25%) means it is overpriced. Same goes for pre-paid maintenance. Even if you only have a 3 year warranty buy Car Shield or some other program later.

As others have mentioned, if you purchase a Ford Factory extended warranty you should do so from Flood Ford or Granger Ford at a much lower price. Or ask your local dealership to match the price.

But I agree with others there is no good reason to buy the warranty right away. Wait until you are closer to the factory "bumper to bumper" warranty running out. My experience is it didn't cost anymore to buy the warranty on my 2018 Escape when it was at 30,000 miles and 32 months than it would have brand new.

More importantly, after 32 months I had a better idea of if I thought it was worth paying for additional protection. Stay on forums like this for whatever vehicle you own and you'll find out if there are expensive problems occurring often. In the case of the 2018 Escape, the 1.5 liter EcoBoost motors were failing excessively (cracked engine blocks letting coolant into the cylinders). Actually we had that happen and while I thought about taking the attitude of "it's fixed now so no reason to buy the extended warranty" it's not 100% clear that the replacement blocks were for sure problem free. I've owned maybe eight new cars and this is the first time I purchased an extended warranty

So anyway, if you lurk around here for the next few years - and add to that your own personal experience with your vehicle - you can make a better decision about the need to purchase the extended warranty.

Question is which plan to get. Also didn't see headlights covered on any of them. Could have missed it.

From a master mechanic best to buy the extended warranties on vehicles in the first couple of years of production. MUCH more chance of all failures. They do run side by side with the new vehicle warranties but usally cover other options as well. Never buy them from your purchase dealer. It is their #1 profit maker. Flood or Grainger if the best bet. If you have any thoughts to wait to purchase the extended warranty don't. It will cost more on a vehicle you have had for awhile and Ford still back dates the coverage to purchase. Had your vehicle 3 years and buy a 5 year warranty, it expires 5 years from when you purchased the vehicle. A vehicle that has been in production for 5-10 years, they have most of the issues addressed any alot fewer failures.

The 8 year warranty is only on the battery and closely related parts not the entire unit. If you have any thoughts of after market warranties like car shield do your homework. That one has pending lawsuits. None will cover like the Ford warranty but after several years those are also the only game in town since the Ford warranty will not cover a 10 year old car.

Thank you all for your advice. I’m still waiting to get the truck, it’s been at the train depot for the past month. I’m waiting on delivery to my dealership. Should be here in the next several weeks. Just getting my ducks in a row on the warranty. All of your information has been very helpful! Thank again
