If only my dealer is this efficient. I spent 4 hours there for the first two free changes and I have to drive for 15 mins to get there. For me; changing my oil actually saves time. I can finish and rotate tire under 40 mins. Maybe when they can do the pick up and drop off for oil change, I’ll consider for them to do it

So, that works out to $63 each time.
It takes less than an hour. I walk around the lot and look at window stickers. It drives the salespeople crazy.
Or I’ll get a cup of free coffee.
No mess,
Hands stay clean,
No oil to dispose of.
They rotate the tires and check all kinds of things and fluids.
I used to change my oil but not anymore. I consider it a convenience fee.
Worth every penny.
Just sayin.

After you go out and buy the five or six quarts of full syn, or a jug, and a filter.
Your saving what,,, $15 or $20
So you can crawl under your car and all that. Then taking the used oil to a mechanic’s shop to dump it. That can be a PIA

And the time and the fuel to get rid of the old oil.

Scooter, I tried a pair of pliers like those and managed to tear a hole in the side of the filter and create a dent in a place that made everything more frustrating. They would work great beyond that first change though. I've used them in the past. For real issues, I'll stick to my initial recommendation of that three toothed bite down monster I ended up using.

That's the same basic design as the one I recommended at the beginning of this post. Your picture is nice. The filter is either coming off or it'll rip in half. I ended with the former and can't imagine the latter except in bad dreams.I bought one of these oil filter wrenches and really like it. Beats the heck out of strap wrenches in those situations where you have more space on the end of the filter than the sides.
I own one of these and I've essentially never use it. in a lot of cars there isn't really space to get it on the filter properly.

I use one with a long extension on my ratchet.
I think it must be part of the "Built Ford Tough" tradition. I still remember my F150. I could not remove the factory oil filter with one of those swivel oil wrenches (big metal ring wrench). There was only enough swing room to tighten up the swivel and the filter would not budge. So I tried hammering a screw driver through it to get extra leverage, and the oil filter started to rip apart but would not move. I could not remove it until I purchased a jumbo sized pair of channel lock pliers.
The exact reason we dont take my wife's Explorer to the stealership anymore. It took near 3hrs to do an oil change last time. Took it in for the rear axle bolt recall last week, she had an 8:30 appt. She called to see if it was gonna be done at 4pm. They hadnt even started on it yet and they said they didnt even know if they would get to it the next day. She drives a lot for work and cant have a vehicle down for an undetermined amount of time. The service departments have become useless. Called the dealer where I bought my Maverick and they said they schedule it for 2 days and they would come pick it up and deliver it when it was done and they wouldnt come pick it up til they had all the parts and tech to do the job.
Did you get one of those left hand threaded oil filters??
Is this meant to be a snarky reply? Lots of these non-helpful responses in this wonderful forum, but I will try to answer your question
I've heard about some folks with trouble removing the original filter. Fortunately mine wasn't one of those, although I used a "socket" type of tool as it was a little snug. The belly pan was the biggest pain....
Thanks for warning us new owners, so we can get out there, loosen it, and put some oil on that gasket.
